Gypsy yes!! Earlier this year I saw him with a young thick sauce in a old hole Chinese restaurant in Tunapuna. He walked in and the ppl were like"Usual Table?" and he said yes.

Given the depravity of the rest of the PP cabinet I would say he was going par for course as a Minister but meem give him wrong. ...that bird woulda make even Banzai blush.

Coudray: Support transition centre

Wednesday, August 26 2015

RESIDENTS of Osbourne Lane in Ste Madeleine, who a few months ago protested the construction of the first ever Male Transition Home in their small community, came in a for a tongue lashing from former Gender, Youth and Child Development Minister Marlene Coudray yesterday at the official opening of the $14M centre.

Her comments came after Samuel Stewart, 16, a talented resident of the St Mary’s Children’s Home whom she met three years ago and whom she described as her “son” delivered a powerful rendition of the classic “You’ll Never Walk Alone.” Stewart, she said, is an example of the kind of talent that can be found at some children’s homes. Saying she wished the Osbourne Lane protesters were present at yesterday’s function, Coudray called on them instead to give the young men their support.

“I met him (Stewart) three years ago as Minister of Gender, Youth and Child Development at the St Mary’s Children’s Home. When I heard his voice I asked PS (Permanent Secretary), to please take Samuel in hand, let us nurture him and this is the product we can have despite our unfortunate circumstances. This is Samuel,” Coudray said as she hugged the youngster.

“To the residents and others who have problems having the facility here, it is people like Samuel who we cater for.” She called Stewart a model resident.

The Ste Madeleine Male Transition Home which is the first of its kind in the Caribbean was established to benefit young men between the ages of 18 and 24 who are in the care of the State and have left the guardianship of the Community Residence or Children’s Home. The home will accommodate ten males in the first instance.

“Under current legislature, children residing in the children’s homes are expected to leave the custody of the homes at the age of 18 regardless of his or her degree of readiness to navigate seamlessly into independent living.

If these transitioning young adults are not provided with the additional skills needed to fully assimilate into life outside the home, they can easily become marginalised by society,” Coudray said.

She described the transition home as more than “a place to sleep or get a hot meal” as she further stated that the home will be “the difference between an aimless , non contributing youth and driven constructive participants in the development in our society.”

Mayfield Bridge, Valsayn

The Mayfield Bridge over the St Joseph river in Mayfield West Road, North Valsayn, began in July 2013. the width of the bridge was increased from 11.2 metres to 22.6 metres into a double-lane bridge with reinforced concrete. The river channel was also widened, increasing its flow capacity, and lessening the risk of flooding in the area.

Bagatelle - Blue Basin Police Youth Club

Since 1986, Marcia Marchan, a Special Reserve Police officer, has been running the Bagatelle Police Youth Club with little infrastructure to support the 150 young members. Every day she and the club members would gather under a tarpaulin tent to conduct their activities. Now, the club has received a $1 million building that can house the young people of Bagatelle.
