Mark this one on allyuh calendar fellas, the boss talking Tuesday !

After a break of a week (last Tuesday was a public holiday in T&T) Tuesday talk resumes this coming Tuesday - April 8th - starting at 7.30 pm.

Our topic is - "The Economy after April 28th - Reality and the Options to overcome the Challenges". This is most timely.
Just a few days ago, the world was rocked by Trump's tariffs. These as well as the sanctions being applied to countries that buy oil and or gas from Venezuela have major implications for T&T's economy. It is well known that T&T has obtained an OFAC license from the US to be able to produce natural gas from the Dragon field which belongs to Venezuela and monetise this gas in downstream plants in Trinidad. This is one of the main sources of gas identified to enable the plants in Trinidad to get back up to full production levels by 2027. What is the reality of our economy today and what will it be if we do not get gas from the Dragon field? Issues of Forex; national debt; government's fiscal deficits; low or no economic growth; the economic circumstances and well-being of the ordinary man and woman; are just some of the matters of concern. The backdrop to all of this is the General Elections on April 28th. There are many promises and much politicking by the two traditional parties in the elections.

Our panel of Economist/Management Consultant Mariano Browne and Independent Energy Policy and Strategy Advisor Anthony Paul will discuss these issues in detail. Don't miss this important discussion.

Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP) leader Watson Duke didn’t hold back during a spot meeting in Mt Grace on Saturday night, mocking Prime Minister Stuart Young’s privileged background asking him to say if he’s experienced poverty or hardship.

I have asked this question before, what does young who was born with a gold spoon in his mouth know anything about the struggles of the average man when he never had to work hard a day in his life to achieve his goals. Must be nice to be privileged your entire life and have everything handed to you on a silver platter

“You ever wear your brother jockey shorts before?” Duke called on Young to say before adding,  “When I was going primary school, things like jockey shorts was a luxury — reserved for church and when you going out.”

I mean tbh anybody really think St Augustine really going to shift?? This is the constituency that has been given a succession of outsiders with no ties to the place - Humphrey, Yetming, Ramadhar etc. Dookeran bout the only person who represented the seat that actually lived in it (meem really know what is Ameen scenes nah but I heard she's from Carapo in which case that's no St Augustine).

allyuh real getting triggered about who say what, and allyuh not even seeing the big picture. the scrutiny that going into PNM and UNC audience numbers and manifesto is laughable.

been saying it for months, PNM and UNC doh want to win govt - second place is the best. so keep at it zealots.

Incoming Govt facing $140B in debt

With Prime Minister Stuart Young’s April 28 poll announcement, T&T is in the thick of election fever. However, while the candidates compete to govern this country, the next leader and government will face a serious economic challenge in managing the country’s heavy debt.

T&T’s Debt Situation

According to Central Bank data, T&T’s adjusted general government debt stood at $142.1 billion as of December 2024. The Central Bank states that adjusted general government debt is total government debt minus debt instruments used for monetary policy purposes. According to the Economic DataPack from the Central Bank, the adjusted general government debt/GDP ratio was projected at 73.1 per cent for December 2024.

Adjusted general government debt is total government debt minus debt instruments used for monetary policy purposes.

In September 2015, when Dr Keith Rowley became Prime Minister, the adjusted general government debt was $26.5 billion less ($114 billion). This reflects a 23.2 per cent increase over the past nine-and-a-half years that the administration has been in office.

The Central Government debt increased from $84.37 billion in 2015 to $115.44 billion in 2024, a 36.8 per cent rise in nine years and three months.

Remember when PNM came in power they said the country only had money to run on for three days then Rowley went and spent three million dollars on.....wait for it.....paintings. if the country was sinking why increase salaries and perks by such outrageous amounts....let
the money run

This is a stupid argument and shows a poverty mindset. The only person you have to blame for not allowing you to be born with a gold spoon in your mouth is your parents. Why should Young not be Prime Minister because his parents worked hard and were able to afford him a better life than most?

Based on that idea then our politicians and prime ministers should only come from the poorest parts of Trinidad? No wonder most most of them can't formulate an economic strategy that involves anything other than hand outs to their supporters and scrunters such as yourself.

The average man needs to learn to get up and get. Since when is poverty a badge of honour? Is only poor people living in the country?

Yeah, Stewie has a privileged background but why hold that against him, and not how the other politicians lost touch with the working class (and below) as their finances grew during their career?

Young arguably doesn't understand the hardships of the working class (and below), but the rest of them think they're still Of The People when they grew to believe The People equate political representation with tribal politics and political fetes with door prizes.

It was already public knowledge Farley hates pnm, logically he was giving his seats to the UNC. AI or not.

The actual people living and voting in Tobago know this?

Why don't UNC just contest seats in Tobago if everyone know the seats will be given away to the UNC?

Why is Farley saying is AI if everybody know the scene?
