United open to Rooney exit  :?

Manchester United will consider the sale of Wayne Rooney in the summer for a fee of around £35 million, ESPN understands.

An Old Trafford source said that any prospective transfer was dependent on a "complicated chain of events", but one that could also see Cristiano Ronaldo end up back at the club.

With Rooney controversially demoted to the bench and the Portuguese not ruling out a return to United, Wednesday night’s Champions League clash between United and Real Madrid was dripping with transfer subplots.

It is known, however, that the Premier League leaders are actively looking into a way to bring Ronaldo back, and that there was more to Sir Alex Ferguson’s decision to drop Rooney than tactics or any injury concerns.

The United manager is understood to have scolded the England international about his fitness at the start of the season - the latest of a number of flashpoints between them since Rooney attempted to force his way out in October 2010.

Despite the now famous photos of Ferguson and his player smiling after a new deal had been signed at that time, there relationship has never fully healed. They also clashed at Christmas 2011, with the manager reportedly dropping Rooney for a Premier League fixture against Blackburn Rovers for disciplinary reasons.

This season has also marked the first time in three years that Rooney has not been the undisputed focal point of the team, after the arrival of Robin van Persie.

In that time, however, United had informal talks with Real Madrid over the prospective transfer of Rooney, but the Spanish club have no wish to purchase him at present. So far, the only club to have expressed an interest are Paris Saint-Germain - as reported by the Times a week ago.

It is unknown, however, whether Rooney himself would want to go to the French capital or even leave United at all. As such, given that they would also have to find a high-profile replacement, United are treading carefully and his departure is by no means certain.

It had been floated that Rooney could be used in some kind of part-exchange deal for Ronaldo but, with Real not interested at present, United may seek to offer Nani and cash for the Portuguese star.

Although there is now a willingness on both sides - United and Ronaldo - to bring the forward back to Old Trafford, there are a number of complications - not least the financing of such a deal.

United, meanwhile, retain an interest in Borussia Dortmund’s Robert Lewandowski as a direct replacement for Rooney. The Poland forward is expected to join Bayern Munich, but that deal is far from done and the Red Devils are continuing to monitor the situation.

THAT is complete bullsh!t

Yes his goals are not as much as most past season. But what that article fails to mention are his greatly significant impacts on games either being his numerous assists or general motivation of the team.

He is going nowhere. Purely hollow speculation to create unnecessary hype

OUCH!

When He's Down
It's a shame that Sir Alex Ferguson's assurance that Wayne Rooney won't be sold in the summer took all the headlines, because the best line from his Friday morning press conference now won't receive the attention it deserves.

On Rafa Benitez, he said:

"I'm not going to kick anyone when they're lying down. It's not my style."

The subtlety in that one is simply outstanding.

Sir Alex Press Conference

1. Sir Alex Ferguson says Wayne Rooney will be at Man Utd next season

2. Sir Alex says that there's no problem with Rooney and he'll start the next game against Chelsea

3. Fergie on Rooney - "Wayne understood the reasons for not playing him. It was completely tactical"

4. Sir Alex on Jones: "Phil Jones won't be ready for Sunday. He'll be available for the following week, though."

5. SAF: "Welbeck is the best player we have in terms of operating in a double role. We had to choke Xabi Alonso's ability to control the game."

6. Sir Alex: "I left out Shinji Kagawa, who scored a hat-trick, and nobody mentioned that. I thought I might get more criticism for that."

7. SAF "it's hard to keep your faith when you see what's happened the last few yrs. It's the 3rd time we've been knocked out because of that."

8. Sir Alex confirms Rooney will be involved v Chelsea. Giggs will be rested, while Jones is still injured.

9. SAF: "Giggs won't play on Sunday because he was the best player on the pitch on Tuesday. He's done his bit for us this week."

10. SAF: Nani was depressed and we all support him

11. Ferguson was asked whether he had 'any sympathy' for Benitez's situation at #cfc. 'I'm not going to kick anyone when they are lying down'

12. SAF : “It is my job to galvanise the troops, who were fantastic on Tuesday and so were the fans. We owe them a good performance on Sunday."

Don’t Rool out Rooney exit

ALEX FERGUSON has history of insisting he will not sell a player — before doing exactly that.

Just ask mega stars David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo, who both exited Old Trafford despite Fergie’s declarations to the contrary.

The Manchester United boss today claimed he would not sell Wayne Rooney in the summer, after axing the England striker from his starting line-up against Real Madrid on Tuesday.

But it echoed similar statements made by the Scot prior to both Becks and Ronaldo’s respective departures.

In April 2003, Fergie bit back on stories suggesting Beckham could be on his way.

He said: “It is totally out of the question. There is no way we would sell him, or any of our best players.”

Two months later, Goldenballs was packing his bags to sign for Real Madrid.

And on the chances of Ronaldo moving to the Bernabeu in 2009, the United boss protested: “Do you think I would get into a contract with that mob?

“Jesus Christ, no chance! I wouldn’t sell them a virus.”

Yet the Portuguese superstar was on his way just months later to Madrid in a world-record £80million deal.
