^^^i have to get a new calculator :(

tricky one for u guys:

a boat (A) is travelling west at 42.776 km/h. another boat (B) is travelling at 42.776 mph heading north. both boats started 200 miles from their meeting point.

which boat will arrive first if boat A left 47 minutes and 42 seconds before boat B.

how long does the first oat have to wait until the other arrives?

note: kilometres per hour and miles per hour

hehehe

i'm getting more or less the same -- approximately 2 hrs 3 min.

boat B travels 200 miles in

200 miles/42.776 mph = 4.6775 hrs approx

boat A travels 200 miles in

200 miles/ (42.776 x .6214) mph = 7.524 hrs

boat A has a

47 min 42 sec= 47.7 min = .795 hr

head start; so boat B arrives at destination

4.6775 + .795 = 5.4725 hrs

after boat A departs. so boat B arrives first and has to wait

7.524-5.4725=2.05 hrs = 2 hrs 3 min

@ stev -- why is the question tricky? because of the conversion from km/h to mph or because of the directions north and west which are not relevant?

"How much will one cost?"
"25 cents"
"How much will fifteen cost?"
"50 cents"
"OK then, I'll take one hundred and sixteen"
"Thank you, that will be 75 cents please"

Explain.

The Count from Sesame Street is buying numbers. The number "1" costs 25 cents, the number "15" costs 50 cents. Therefore, each number costs 25 cents. So when The Count buys the number "116", he is buying three numbers, "1", "1" and "6" = 25 * 3 = 75 cents.

anyone has nice shortcuts to share? like easy ways of calculated long questions?

see this guy:

Ms. Arroyo asked the class to see if they could find the sum of the first 50 odd numbers. As everyone settled down to their addition, Terry ran to her and said, "The sum is 2,500." Ms. Arroyo thought, "Lucky guess," and gave him the task of finding the sum of the first 75 odd numbers. Within 20 seconds, Terry was back with the correct answer of 5,625.

How does Terry find the sum so quickly?

The sum of the first 50 numbers is an AP
Finding the sum of the first 50 integers and subtracting it from the sum of the first 50 even numbers would give the sum of the sum of the first 50 odd numbers.

Sn=n/2(a+l)
l-a/d + 1 = n

shouldn't take that long especially if you're good @ mental

ok this is mess. lol

An area in the first Cartesian coordinate is bounded by one function, the line x = 1, and the x axis (y = 0).

The boundary function is y = (1/x) starting at x =1 and it goes to x = infinity.

Rotate this area about the x axis so it creates a volume.

Calculate the surface area and the volume of this object.
