You would but how it goh look a short, fair skin dwarf,is the leader of a ,,,,,party,he had the chance when manning get chase out eh,but the "people"choose growley.

That is the thing. PNM must have a afro leader while the UNC must have a indo leader... at least for now. The only person that broke the status quo a bit was Jack Warner when a indo-dominant constituency voted for him in the by-elections last year. If Jack Warner was still in the UNC and didn't have all that baggage, more than likely he would have become the political leader of the UNC later on.

Which brings me back to the question if Faris Al Rawi will ever get a chance. The "pnm till ah deads" would really dead if Faris ascends as political leader of the PNM.

Nah Al Wari is a sure shoe in for next leader. Rowley only has one or two terms left in his +60 body. Likewise Imbert. Al Wari is being groomed for succession while they bring in newbies like Clarence Ramberat and another lawyer I can't remember right now.

Last party election Al Wari got the most total votes for his position, even more than Rowley. He is loved by the party faithful the PNM knows they can't attract the Indo voted, never have, never will. But they are targeting young professionals and mixed race which are the future voters of tomorrow.

Meanwhile UNC trying to get all the contracts in before next elections and then wing it from there if they win. They not sure if they will last long enough to build their own party headquarters, but UNC needs some succession too. Every UNC member of the hierarchy/cabal has too much baggage to be taken seriously. I favour Vasant Barath, aside from his hit-and-run tendacies he seems more level headed than his colleagues. However they never give him a safe seat so that might never happen.

Total rubish on the indo votes,
PNM once had the muslim Indo votes in their bag from the 1956 to mid 1980s, but it all went wrong when Kamaluddin Mohammed was by-passed in favor of Chambers as PM. PNM could not stand an Indo for PM. PNM lost the indo vote beacuse of racist actions inside the party. It was crab in barrel when Eric Williams passed away.

Now PNM moving to mixed races, its gonna have more pulling and tuging with those that carry indo surnames.

So Mikela Panday going up for Princes Town for the PNM. Panday and Rowley would really sleep with the devil to get what they want! No wonder UNC was always in opposition under Panday, to think as he was removed as leader UNC/PP got into government.

PNM never lost the indo Muslim/Christian votes: those that have been put off by inherent Hindu nationalist tendencies of the ULF/UNC. That vote tends to now form the floating votes that end up determine the winners of elections. When they are burned by the PNM they go UNC, when the reverse happens they go back to the PNM. Be assured that this rounds that vote going to the PNM. The AG recently drum up Al Wari's old statement of Mohammedan lineage to cause dissention but the presence of Devant Maharaj and the recent treatment of Carolyn and Dookeran would make that vote migrate from the PP.

Toll beyond the poll

By Clarence Rambharat

Story Created: Sep 22, 2014 at 8:11 PM ECT
(
Story Updated: Sep 22, 2014 at 8:11 PM ECT )

It’s a tie. That’s the Sunday Express headline that certainly caught the attention of voters across the country. It’s no surprise that the PM maintains her “popularity”, but the key data is the 34 per cent of potential voters who do not commit to either the PNM or People’s Partnership. Within that 34 per cent, 26 per cent of those polled are not sure for which party they will vote. The other eight per cent support third parties. In which direction will this group throw its support when general election comes? And is that 26 per cent “not sure” or just not saying? If the two main parties are running as close as the latest poll suggests, then this 34 per cent will decide the next government.

The governing People’s Partnership will approach the next general elections in three ways.

First, the Partnership will repackage its team to save the PM the blushes of the baggage her Government has accumulated. The repackaging includes very visible physical changes among current ministers and tight management of the PM’s public appearances. It’s no secret there are punctuality and other issues affecting these appearances. But the repackaging also includes negotiating the departure from the upcoming election fray of some current MPs, replacing them with neophytes with academic pedigree but little record of public service. The departure of some current MPs will come at a price. The question is whether taxpayers are currently paying this price.

At the political ground level, the gnawing view is that the Government MPs have become wealthy very quickly. But like previous governments there are allegations of wrongdoing by non-politicians, particularly those within the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM). Critics point to the growth of the OPM, its increasing budget, and the tendency to shift State entities into the OPM. Those who have observed the movement suggest that the shift of the National Operations Centre (NOC) to the OPM coincides major procurement by the NOC and the desire in some quarters to control that procurement. A close examination of procurement at the OPM may reveal the facts.

Second, the Partnership will campaign on the strength of the PM’s popularity within certain demographics, continuing to draw the line between the PM and the rest of her Government. Key to the Partnership’s success is the extent to which the current “not sure” voters will, on election day, buy into that contrived notion that a prime minister is not personally responsible for wrongdoing and allegations of wrongdoing within her own government. Are there corruption allegations for which the PM is answerable?

And third, the polls show that among those likely to support the Government, “performance” is a key measure. The Government will continue to highlight bricks, mortar, asphalt and handouts as signs of performance, and even before the corruption, ethics, and transparency questions are asked, the Government will emphasise allegations of PNM corruption. Fuelling this perception of performance is costing the country long before the elections.

The Government continues to spend heavily on nuisance advertising, extolling every basic act of Government-ribbon cutting, sod turning, programme launches, document signings. The Government spends more money on advertising itself than auditing itself. And by the time the election campaign really heats up the Government will ramp up its self-adulation.

What effect will this have on the current “not sure” voters? Is this “performance” or wastage? Can we measure permanence by tons of cement poured and truckloads of aggregate? Heading deeper into the election campaign, the “not sure” could be misleading the pollsters. They could be decided but “not saying”.

The author is a lawyer and possible PNM candidate for the next general elections.
