So that makes miles take a while to get but it doesn't expire once you travel often.

But I also heard that Scotia has one that is applicable to any airline. Dunno how true that is.

It's every 1usd spent u accumulate...roundtrip to the USA is 30,000 and Caribbean is 15,000 miles...I know because I did both already..only issue is you have to keep checking your miles cuz for some strange reason they are not added with some purchases...but I have no other complaints

Scotia Aero

Any airline, any flight, any date.
20,000 points to FLL, MIA, JFK or EWR

70,000 points to U.K.

As Pete said, you need to let them know 14 working days before the flight. You only pay the taxes.

With points you could even pay off the taxes and all too with the scotia Aero reward

You forgot Orlando (MCO) as well for 20,000 points.

Yes, 1600 points 1USD = 1 point

You can also redeem point to cover tickets cost to Europe etc. But be sure to call first and get the conversion because 1 point does not equal 1 USD

Once you have made the purchase, you will have 90 days to call the Aero Rewards Centre and ask for a travel credit. Full or partial credit is permitted at a conversion rate of USD $0.015 per point of travel credit.

So $1,600USD would require 106,600 points to cover it. Best thing would be to call the Aero Rewards Centre and see how it can be handled.

From my personal experience I call and tell them the flight I want and they will forward that information to their travel agent to confirm availability. Once they can get the flight/seats they will then send me an email of the booking for me to confirm and once I do that they will deduct the taxes from the credit card. Even though a flight to MCO is like 550US, the taxes are only like $130 vs 115 for Miami. So if you're going to Orlando anyway it's much better to use the miles to go there and save yourself a 4-5 hour drive.

This is the best option actually..
(best of the worse though)

I think RBC actually came out with their card having similar benefits after Scotia started giving competition.

There are a few points to note with Scotia though. These are not accusations from me... it is just facts and related things to note for your own protection and sanity.

(1) Try to pay your credit card bills online.
If unfortunately you pay it at their teller... run quickly to the front bench in any church... on your knees.. and beg a higher power for your money to hit the correct account.
The tellers there just don't seem to care what numbers they punch.

(2) When you ready to travel, make sure you have the Chip Version of the card to give more protection from skimmers.
Initially, when this card came out, Scotia did not have the chip technology.
They launched it but don't really care if you convert your card or not.
Ensure that you have it because the states don't ask for ID and most times no signature... is just swipe and go.

(3) Always monitor your Credit Card Transactions Online... Daily.
If... not if, When any errors are made with your transaction charges and fees... it is you who has to pick up on it and alert the bank.

Also, the "security staff" that monitors and protects your credit card transactions are basically ex-NIB workers.

Your card could be compromised and the thief would go on a shopping spree until the card is maxed out.
The card will even go beyond the limit for days and the bank will just apply the "over the limit fee" to the card and let it run.

If this happens... and you inform the bank that your card is suspiciously maxed out, they'd block the card... tell you to wait weeks for a new card... then tell you that the charges (made by the theif) will be transferred to your new card and stay there for 6 months as they "investigate the matter".
And yes... these charges made by the thief will reduce the original limit of the card until the investigation is complete.

(4) When travelling, inform the bank of the dates and destinations of your travel. Date Leaving and Date Returning. They would tell you that a phone call is enough... but when sheit hits the fan, they have no recollection of that call.
Always send an email with this info.
Get an email address from a Customer Service Manager/Supervisor and send it to them. That is your evidence that you informed them.

Purpose of this:
Many times, the theif may use the card in another state that you did not visit or they'd use it abroad while you are back in Trinidad.
These submitted dates and destinations will help the bank clear you of suspicion and finish the investigation faster.

(5) Always keep the name and contact number of your Scotiabank Branch Manager close, as you would need to always be in contact with them for some problem or the other.

With respect to Credit Card Security...
In my experience with the banks here, the best came from Republic Bank.
The were the first bank to launch the "chip and pin technology" and even before that, they'd monitor transactions with a passion.
I'd get calls from them late in the night asking me about a transaction that I just made online on a new website. Just to confirm that I made it... etc

Their Miles Credit Card though doesn't have competitive benefits.
With Republic:
* You have to travel with AA.
* You can only travel at certain "slow periods" during the year.
* The cost of a ticket is 10,000 miles more than other banks.
* You can only use the miles for certain seats
* You have to book your tickets a minimum of One Year in advance in order to get available seats.

Like I said, the Scotiabank AERO is the best on the market.
Just be prepared to be a vigilant customer.

Strange with Scotia, they always call if I do a strange purchase.

And they would block my card if I don't inform them I am traveling

Never had a problem with scotia's security, they are usually on the ball. My card was apparently skimmed in Brazil last year and I had a number of unauthorized transactions after I returned home. They promptly blocked my card and called me. Had no problems hashing out the unauthorized payments and getting a new card.

Same happened to me. Not sure how my card was compromised though.. I believe they reversed all the transactions.

Using Scotiabank travel miles

Postby nightcrawler » August 12th, 2018, 3:51 pm

Need some info on how I go about using my Scotiabank travel miles pls. Would like to surprise the family with a trip to Disney for the Christmas. I have about 62000 miles on my card. Travel to mco is 20000 miles. Who do I contact to use the miles on the card? One return ticket is 800US . I know the miles doesn't cover some fees. Any ideas how much $ a ticket will cost me. Thanks

Step 1. Check Expedia to see what flights are available and choose when you want to go and write it down.
Step 2. Call 627-2684 and follow the menu to aero rewards and let them know you want to redeem your points on the flights you chose.

You just pay taxes and it's probably around $1200. You can see what the taxes are on Expedia and for aero they are just a little more.

You should confirm that MCO is 20000 miles.. I think only MIA and Ft Lauderdale qualifies for that.

But as Pete said, just call the number 2 weeks prior and tell them the dates and flight info. Taxes is usually about 1200 per ticket.

It works out better to use the miles during peak times.. more savings..

Off peak it may just be cheaper to pay for your own ticket as sometimes flights drop to $2k during December.

Well you now prove who is the dum bass . Its either you dont know about scotiabank aero card or you just plain retarded. Read back where pete said about redeeming points for tickets. Also read where A172 said he has150000 POINTS .You dont know anything about the topic but jumping in with misinformation as usual. Scotia aero gives points for every dollar spent, which can be redeemed for tickets . You can also pay the taxes on the tickets with it. DA. Broke ass poser.

Used my RBC Credit card miles for POS-JFK -POS for 2 persons TT$1236.00 for taxes only .

My guide is to book well in advance as seats for miles redemption is limited. eg: choose a date and have to travel 2 days earlier as no miles seats were available for my chosen dates.

Note without miles the total cost would have been ~TT$8000, for both tickets.

Your normal scotia online doesn't show the miles, its printed on the paper statement or there is a separate miles website you can see it and also make bookings from there but its faster to do it over the phone. http://www.scotiabankaerorewards.com

Also something to note, when using the miles to book thru the program, its usually done by the bank thru a travel agency. Please confirm your flights with the airline prior to departure. Used miles to travel recently, only when i got to the airport counter I found out the flight was cancelled. The airline claimed they didn't have my contact info and it was the agency's responsibility to notify me.
