THIAGO OUT FOR SIX TO EIGHT WEEKS
Munich - FC Bayern München midfielder Thiago Alcantara will be out of action for up to eight weeks after suffering a knee injury in the champions' 3-3 draw with 1899 Hoffenheim on Matchday 28.The summer signing from FC Barcelona suffered a partial tear to the medial ligament in his right knee in Saturday's draw with the Sinsheim club and was replaced by captain Philipp Lahm after 25 minutes.
Missing for Man Utd
The 22-year-old had an X-ray after the game at the clinic of the club's chief medical officer Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Müller Wohlfahrt, where it was revealed he will be out for "six to eight weeks", meaning he will definitely miss both legs of the upcoming UEFA Champions League quarter-final against Manchester United FC, as well as the final weeks of the Bundesliga campaign.
Head coach Pep Guardiola said of the injury, "It's very bad news and we will miss him badly", while midfielder Thomas Müller added, "It's really disappointing and it comes at a catastrophic time for us, right before a lot of important matches".
The 33-year-old suffered a torn ligament in training on Friday and could be sidelined for most of the rest of the season following Saturday's surgery
Bayern Munich goalkeeper Tom Starke has undergone surgery on an elbow injury sustained in training on Friday.
The 33-year-old, understudy to Bayern's regular No.1 Manuel Neuer, has made just two Bundesliga appearances this season.
With the title already assured, Starke was named in Bayern's starting XI against his former club Hoffenheim last week, which ended in a 3-3 draw.
However, Starke is now set for a spell on the sidelines, though the German and European champions have not put a timescale on his return.
"Treble winners FC Bayern must give up on the services of Tom Starke for now," a statement on the club's website read. "The No.2 of the record German champions retired from training on Friday with a torn ligament to his right elbow.
"The 33-year-old goalkeeper underwent surgery on Saturday by a specialist in Tubingen. How long Starke has to stop is still open."
Starke made the switch to the Allianz Arena ahead of the 2012-13 season, but has been limited to just five Bundesliga appearances for Bayern.
Teenager Leopold Zingerle replaced him in the squad for Bayern's encounter with Augsburg later on Saturday.

might very well happen yes. if it does happen i hope we find a way to overcome that cowardice tactic of 'parking the bus' that these sub-par english teams like to utilise. and better to get them in the semis than the final. meem wha get frustrated by any kinna fowl theef strategy from mourihno

Bayern's Neuer expects to be fit for Real semi-final
Thu Apr 17, 2014 6:11pm BST
(Reuters) - Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer expects to be fit to face Real Madrid in their Champions League semi-final first leg.
Neuer was substituted at halftime in the 3-0 home defeat by Borussia Dortmund last Saturday with a calf muscle problem.
"I feel fine and I have the feeling that I can play on Wednesday," he told Bayern's website on Thursday.
As Tom Starke was also injured, Neuer was replaced by third choice Lukas Raeder, who also played in the 5-1 German Cup win over Kaiserslautern on Wednesday.
