UDECOTT under PP called it a NICU, under PNM they called it a SCBU.

At the end of the day, it is not relevant to the deaths at POSGH. And the hospital in Couva doesn't need to be opened because it already is in use despite what UNC says.

A Morvant couple, whose first child died at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital’s Neonatal ICU on Christmas Eve last year, believes their baby’s death should have alerted health officials that something was wrong at the unit, preventing further loss of life

The couple, Roy Richards and Fayola Andrews, yesterday said they had questions about their baby Roxanne’s care and their concerns grew after her death but they thought no one would take them seriously if they came forward.

Then they saw, almost daily for the past two weeks, parents reliving their nightmare of losing their babies.

The couple said their daughter Roxanne was delivered via an emergency Caesarean section on November 23, 2023. One month and a day later she was dead. The first cause of death, as listed by the hospital, said Roxanne died from Klebsiella pneumoniae sepsis and prematurity. The second one stated the baby died of Klebsiella pneumoniae sepsis, prematurity and low birth weight.

I won’t just say media alone but ambulance chasing lawyers as well.

Whether it is crime, LMCS divers, Andrea Bharat, Covid and other shocking deaths, there is an imperceptible line between genuine concern for loss of life and improving the system to how can I beat this drum louder to achieve my political goals.

because of the sheer volume of people having to end up in hospital and they having to test everyone who came in for treatment before treating them

The amount of people die due to negligence is astonishing, even in first world hospitals.

Covid was a nightmare for hospitals which on a normal circumstance, can barely cope with the workload.

While our health staff can definitely do better, I wouldn't blame them.

I know a few people who got treated at couva and by all accounts the care delivered was pretty good.

That said, we need to drastically improve the level of care and quality in our public health facilities. This kind of thing is unacceptable.

While there are plenty fantastic doctors and nurses, there are plenty bad ones.


Issues in public Healthcare have been simmering for years. Every thing from active racism to preferential treatment of foreign nurses and doctors. Some of whom, credentials have been called into question.

Horror stories during the covid vaccine administration were.a microcosm of the rot in the public Healthcare. Poor people spoke about being jabbed and treated badly. Maybe Terrance could cry about that
