the worst thing is modern day workmen like to use other ppl thing
we had a handyman whom I bought garden tools for him to use so he would not use mine
the idiot still preferred to use mine just because mine was cleaner.

I remember long ago when my parents hired workmen
they would wrap their saws and tools in newspaper at the end of the day
all tied with string

^yupp not only that, but spend some time really cleaning the tools when they are finished

i guessed tools back then were costly so they knew how to care for it whereas now
they so readily available...when one burn/mash up, jus buy another

Tongue and groove is best done with a router table and not a handheld router for consistency of the cut. Can be done with some effort tho.

Never tried as the tongue and groove bit sets are pretty expensive.

steve meade & other ppl swear by cutting a circle with a router & circle cutting jig but i prefer d old compass & jigsaw method , less dust & my hands cuts straight , if its for pretty work where d circle going to be showing then d router for it ...

$960 ish @ Pricesmart (can't remember the exact price)

Skil 1830 Combo Router, 2 1/4 HP variable speed, 1/2 & 1/4 collets, storage bag.

Bought one from Amazon earlier this year, cost around the same landed.

My only complaint is that the bits are difficult to remove. Eats through Teak.

Maybe not a first choice for continuous use but for occasional use, you cant beat the price.

^Not bad.

Home Mart had the refurbished Skil 1810s for $ 300 flat during their warehouse sale.

Those were fixed base and single speed though.

Yup, it's hit or miss with the refurbished units.

The fact that they only offer a 7 day warranty on them should serve as a warning to the conscientious buyer as well.

Still, if you can score some good ones, they're pretty good value for money.

I've seen one break already under moderate use.

SWS in Marabella has some Stanley ones, around $450 for a medium. I'll be trying one of those when i build a work table. There's also Record but not cheap.

Bhags also has quite a few but SWS has better prices.

yea i saw dat skil router in ps , real good deal

with bench vise all dem do d same but if tightening\bending something really hard like trying to bend 1\2" round steel or thicker er steel into like a "U" shape cold not heated those cheaper vise made of cast iron will crack & break in front near to where d "neck" is

d better 1 to buy is a england brand called "RECORD" , may cost 2 times or more but tough like dat , cud pong on it or bend heavy steel & nothing happens to it , i have 1 about 14yrs going

of course doh buy a lil 1 to do heavy work when d job requires a bigger 1 ....

Peake's also has a "No Vat" sale on most items for three days.

Tools still overpriced but got some consumables at great prices.

presently, i think its a luck and chance with power tools of any brand since none is made in the original country as they were originally done

thats why i need have 2 seperate drills, one for basic use(for screws, basic drilling)
then one for extreme use (concrete drilling, steel etc)

Remember, even if they are made in China, the QC still has to conform to the brand standards.

You don't buy a big brand name tool for luck and chance, you buy it for their proven performance and reliability.

Milwaukee is owned by the Chinese yet I'd trust a Milwaukee tool over almost any other brand name.

dewalt tools are pretty good,
most yankee contractors use dewalt and red neck yankees are the ones most likely to complain about stuff made in china
one should still try and check reviews though
even in big brands there are many models which are made on one off basis and tend to be lower quality, the models which carry same model number over years tend to be better and you hardly ever see them go on sale in amazon
