A Lil info about JLW6 PLZ

I have been putting roughly about 150 to 250 rms on my sub all its life, finally I got a more powerful amp, 1000rms... The sub is rated at 600rms.. Would the 1000 rms be too much power for the sub since it was handling 250rms all its life?

No, its fine, 1000W amplifier for a W6 is ideal.

1000w continuous power is not recommended by jl. Lots of guys run amps on them that claim to do 1000wrms while not even coming close. Be conservative with it, it will handle that much power only in transient passages, not continuous playing for extended sessions.

^^ what he said is right. Don't listen to men who say they got 2000rms on such-and-such sub and it playing. You want your sub to be playing for 10 years, not 3! (My JL 10W4 - yes, w4 - is 15 years old and still in my trunk playing)

Set your gains to the rated RMS output of your speaker by using an oscilloscope or digital multi-meter.

Thanks guys... The gain and bass boost are one half and I usually play it for an hr for the most.
This sub has some age tho, maybe around 8 years.. Only now it's getting some power

If the power you want to output to your sub is much of a concern you can use the voltmeter method to set the gain pot.

I think you will be fine. The power ratings of subwoofers is a guesstimate at best, and it's affected by many things including the type of box that you're using the sub in.

use P=V^2/R to find what voltage you would require for a given power output.
