Toyota Hilux stock head unit trippin

Postby shark » July 10th, 2017, 11:03 pm

Sup tuners

Recently my radio started putting out some dread screeching feedback even when i turn the volume right down. It comes and goes (dunno if is the weather) sometimes it plays fine but most times it starts with static then eventually unbearable feedback.

I tried different radio stations, usb/ ipod and still happening. I only recently realised also that only 2 of the 4 door speakers are playing. I knew the driver door wasnt playin but now the left back passenger is dead too. Kinda strange dunno if it has something to do with the radio.

I tested the driver side door speaker wiring and all is well up to the speaker connection so it is getting a signal.

Anybody ever come across anything like this???

Radio maybe on the way out, look for a replacement. Problem sounds intermittent and maybe hard to troubleshoot.

Would you believe i had a similar problem about 3 weeks ago
I honestly thought for a moment that the radio DJ was using a flange effect and then it became a screech that could be heard on every station. My front Left speaker wasn't playing and my front right speaker would usually play much quieter for the volume level than it did before; it would also play bursts of loud distorted audio when the volume was turned up.

So I decided to replace/upgrade my head unit.
After replacing the Deck i was troubled when i couldn't hear any sound coming from the Front Left Speaker and was still hearing similar outbursts from the front right speaker. I inspected the front speakers and found that the Left was burnt. Since i had to replace it i decided to just replace the front pair.

I modified the factory speaker basket to act as an adapter for the replacements

Original Deck...It is a Clarion Unit...however I am unsure if this unit was installed by a third party before being delivered to me as there was already an antenna adapter wired in when I installed my Pioneer Head unit

Melted Speaker...Yes it is mainly plastic

Wow that sounds exactly like what was happening with me...i am planning on changing deck and all the speakers

I did a lil recon by pulling out the deck to inspect the wiring behind and noticed the antenna adapter wired in also...mine looked factory so i dunno...

Thanks for the post man

Made that mistake but I got lucky... I'm not really into car audio so I went in thinking all 6.5" speakers are the same not knowing that some manufacturers made them sightly bigger. Mine fit...just.

I installed Focal two way coaxials... Which on the box is 6.5", but is classified online as 6.75".

Hope you get through
