Midbass Phase issue?

Postby DJ Q » September 2nd, 2016, 2:24 pm

Hi all,

I'm still new to the world of SQ but I've been having a problem with my midbass and only recently I think I've figured it out but I'm not sure how to correct it.

I don't get a lot of high bass in songs and I'm sure the comps are playing them. The door vibrates and the mirror shakes but I'm just not hearing it. Until the other day I was sitting in the car with the driver's door open and boom... heard everything the way i want to.

It seems that the components are cancelling each other out around the 50-80hz region.
When song has a bass sweep, it's like it fades out midway then comes back
I know what I have is probably below entry level to what some of you use, but I'm just not sure how to fix this one.

Deck: Pioneer 7100BT
Speaker AMP: JBL Loud+Clear 50x2
Sub AMP: Jensen 350wrms
Speakers: Powerbass S-6C & Powerbass S-6502
Sub: Image Dynamics ID12 (sealed)

No Loudness, no bass boost, gains properly set. No dynamat. Risers made with chip board.
I listen mostly to dancehall, reggae, rap & soca.

Thanks.

I'm not sure what slope the deck uses, honestly.

If you think you are having phase issues then switch the polarity of one of the mids - I'd switch the driver side first.

I would change those chipboard risers as well.

If I had to switch the polarity wouldn't it sound weird too?
I get high bass just the lower notes from the comps

Thanks for all the suggestions so far.

Out of phase does sound different but are you sure its not mistakenly out of phase atm?
Double check the wiring before you adjust anything especually with passives, its easy to flip a wire unknowingly

IF those are the speakers it says 60hz and up so i wont expect much below that especially if you are using the passives

Are your doors treated with any deadener or anything ? What modifications have you done with respect to the door?

Ok so I finally got the time to look into this yesterday.
Flipped the driver's side polarity as suggested and that was the issue.

Honestly... listening to the system now....

Mind = Blown

Strange thing is... I traced all the wires back and everything was wired correctly.
Is it odd for the speakers to sound better when they're out of phase?

Electrical phase vs acoustic phase.

Roger, your SQ age shows... lol.
