What wrong with Tiidas though? I more concerned about the retards with big engines and loud mufflers making a set of dotish noise having to cover your ears everytime they pass. I hoping the only benefit to come out of removal of this subsidy is they will go the way of the dodo.

Big engines aren't necessarily noisy. A fart cannon of a muffler will be noisy even on a 1L engine

What a foolish concept.... rather than teach people conservation or put an alternative in place (bike lane, electric and smart cars, carpool incentive etc) TAX the $hit out of gas so you wouldn't want to drive. DONKEY LOGIC...

Uhhh fuel is not being taxed bruh.... You're just paying closer to the actual price for it. Now that people are paying the actual price they would be more likely to be open to options. Subsidies encourage waste

So what is the extra $2 per L on premium.... a donation???

Don't forget VAT! And to all these tunts who seem to be protest champs, not everyone could or has to march and placard to make a point

My Cortina is the undercover car, you can drive through PNM areas with dat and not get robbed. I even have Ghanaian flag on it, dem does think it's a rasta flag.

It used to cost me 100 dollars to fill me Almera. After two 15% increases it should be costing me what 130-135 to fill up. But it seems to be costing closer to 150. Who adding the extra price ?

Not sure if there was this level of beatup when we had $3.00 to $5.75 overnight a few years ago.

Awaiting forex hoarder motors to stock Teslas and nissan leafs. Honestly...I'd lease an electric but I'm uneasy of ever buying one due the the poor after sales service everywhere in this country.
Said dealership has a 2 month standard wait on "special ordered" parts that should be in stock.....in my case a small rubber seal that I ended up buying from a tuner who had in stock....which cost $30TT

Yes but at that time oil prices were higher, super and diesel was dog cheap and I had vehicles that needed diesel and premium so was diesel cruising most of the time.
Now everything gonna increase, esp by September, and as someone posted earlier about not making a profit on its oil and gas...

In the manning administration Premium was $3 per litre then it was changed to $4.

In April 2012 when I bought my car premium was $4 per litre.

In the 2012-2013 budget (September or October 2012 can't remember) it was raised by 44% to $5.75 per litre.

Bought my first car in 2008 and premium was $3. Then went to $4 that same year. Remained $4 till 2012 when it went to $5.75. Only fuel I have ever used since owning cars so am quite familiar with prices of it.

Bullchit, The market is owned by PNM Financiers since they own almost every large business.
They are setting the wages with the limp PNM Unions

Unpatriotic to raise fares

Imbert to taxi drivers

Finance Minister Colm Imbert yesterday made a public appeal to taxi and maxi taxi drivers not to increase their fares to commuters following the 15 per cent hike in the prices of super gasoline and diesel fuel last Friday.

He said to raise the prices would be “unpatriotic.”

Imbert made the plea during an interview on 195.5 FM after being questioned as to whether the Government had taken into account how the phasing out of the fuel subsidy would have affected the poor man.

Stating that there was a $15 billion gap between expenditure and revenue, Imbert said the move was necessary.

“You are missing $15 billion. You have revenue of $44 billion and expenditure at $59 billion, which is a cut-back figure from $63 billion. You have choices.”

In retrospect, Imbert said, the most practical thing the Government could have done was to slash the fuel subsidy, which benefits the upper income rather than the lower income earners.

“The reason is that they have more expensive cars which consume more fuel. So they spend more on fuel. So they benefit more.”

Imbert said while lower income earners benefit by between $500 and $700 a month from the subsidy, “the upper income family is between $2,000 to $2,500. This is disproportionate.”

The money saved from the subsidy, Imbert said, will go towards putting more buses on the road “to give people a viable alternative that is cheaper. So you have to get the cost of public transportation down using the money that you save.”

Told that maxi taxi and taxis operators and owners may increase their fares, Imbert said, “I think this is unpatriotic.”

Consumers now pay $3.58 per litre for super, while diesel now costs $2 per litre.

Following last year’s Budget, Imbert said the price of doubles had increased from $4 to $5.

“They say this was because the price of diesel went up.”

Imbert said when one worked out the component of diesel to the production of doubles, “it’s two or three per cent. But they added 100 per cent or whatever. I really want to appeal to maxi taxi owners and drivers, please go easy. Be fair. It is not fair if the price of fuel goes up by 15 per cent to raise a fare by 25 per cent or 50 per cent. This is what I am hearing.”

Soon, Imbert said, the Government will reduce the taxes on maxi taxis and taxis.
