CK4 Lancer - 4G92 Mivec with Tiptronic Transmission

Postby Mike93 » August 14th, 2014, 4:29 pm

Hey Guys, looking for some advice here. I'm looking at buying a ck4 lancer with the mivec 4g92 engine, but the transmission is tiptronic. Now I remember reading on the forum here that the tiptronic transmissions tend to be problematic.....any views on this??

Really, so once the transmission seems to be working properly, changing gears as it should etc... you think it's a safe bet?

The cvt transmission are problematic. The invec from the ck works excellent. Take a sample of the transmission oil and see if it's burnt or black.

Have fun with the purchase man. Bear in mind parts for this engine may be a little harder and expensive. Yeah as Ted said check the transmission oil.

Thanks a lot guys, was actually considering ruling out the ck because of this, don't really want the stress of transmission problems again nah.......will definitely keep it in mind still

Yeah man ck is a good car. Just regular maintenance . The Mivec is a good buy tho.

Yea I've always loved the ck's, those and the cs2, but I don't want anything with a cvt transmission. One additional question as the mivec came up, how is the mivec when it comes to gas? I know about the performance, but not so much about the mileage, and well I guess once I it maintained properly all should be in order right?? Like regular oil change, filter, plugs etc...

Tiptronic. No problems. Like any tranny, service on time and check your oil level.

I use mine in tiptronic mode 40% the time.

How's the mileage and gas consumption Morph?

LoL. Stay out of mivec and you ok. Highway traffic is a pain on premium of course.

That $4/L jump to $5.75/L wasn't easy but I still here 8-)

So I'm guessing with the mivec version you have to use premium?? Or is it just better to use the premium??

Good buy bro...can't go wrong but as with purchasing any previously owned vehicle have it properly assessed by your mech to ensure no major problems on the horizon. I have my Mivec 10 years already and no major problems...mines is manual though. Parts are scarce but to get them you will.

A manual mivec must really be a joy to drive

The reason why I chose not to go 4G92 Mivec is because of parts seemingly scarce. The run around is the thing.

Best FWD lancer I ever drove was a ck with a gsr cm5a 4g93t with a 92 gearbox.

4 wheel disk brakes with a rear mivec sway bar. Upper front and rear sway bar. Beautiful

Yea I realised that parts for these engines seems to be scarce, even for the regular 4g92 it seemed like it would be kinda hard to get parts

Both are scarce. Have to know where to look or bring in yourself. Both can be a bit pricey........but are available.

Hmmm, I see, right nw I'm more leaning in the direction of a cs3 lancer....but I would still love to own a mivec ck4 one day
