L200 K74T: Approaching 200K service

Postby Streetwise Performance » October 24th, 2013, 2:50 pm

Ok, my reliable K74T non-turbo van is at 181,xxxKm so I am ordering up all the parts needed for the 200K service. I had all the old parts from the 100K service so getting some items was pretty easy. So far I have timing belt, balance shaft belt and the 3 fan belts (all Gates).
Also, today I ordered 2 tensioner bearings for T/belt and balance shaft belt. For the suspension I ordered front cradle bushings (upper & lower) and Moog ball joints.

At this mileage, what else do you recommend I should change to keep this vehicle as reliable as possible? No oil leaks whatsoever but what are the seals that usually need changing? Never changed clutch either. Driveshaft Center bearing? Water pump? Glow plugs?
Hoping to hear any other suggestions from the 4x4 guys.

Cheers!

I read through some service manuals but could not find any reference to a service point or change interval for the water pump. Somehow I think it's not meant to be changed every 100,000 Km like how we do on cars. So i'll just do a radiator flush and drop in fresh coolant.

Have the Engine removed... replace the front and rear crank shaft seals, replace cam shaft seal and balance shaft seals also... replace Pilot bearing located on the fly wheel, change clutch pressure plate and release bearing.... oil and filters.. get injectors serviced... thats about it for engine...

susupension, upper and lower ball joint, all bushings(strut and sway bars, strut link buhsings etc)

have Steering ends checked(regreased). check pitman and idler arms joints for any play..
have Rear leaf spring shakle bushings checked..

gearbox, transfer case and Differential oils must also be replaced...

use 75w90 or nearest equivalent API GL4 gear oil only!

Be sure to buy OEM seals for shafts on engine, others dont last at all

Great heads up man speedaholic, seems your suggestions are right on with this upcoming service. I should have enough time to get most of those parts you mentioned.

I realized my gearbox is the V5M21 so I going to order clutch, pp, release bearing and pilot for that box. Already worked out all the part #'s.

gearbox, transfer case and Differential oils must also be replaced...

I have to do this ASAP, gears going in hard. Changing engine and g/box oil this week.

Engine bay needed a wash so Sunday I used breeze/kerosene mix and a pressure washer to get it back to specs!!

Thanks bro, I got through last weekend Jan 2015. Mileage now at 204,000 km.
Service done:
All front seals (Cam, crank, balance shaft)
Timing belt + Balance shaft belt, Tensioner pulleys (2)
Fan belts (A/C, P/S, Alt)
Coolant

I would recommend this mechanic to anyone since he is well certified and professional. The only problem he had was the gear on the crank snout got seized up. You can see how rusty it is in the pics. I am happy overall with the job done, the time it took and the cost. The next big service to be done is the clutch but its holding out so I am just gathering the parts piece by piece so its easy on my pocket. Now on to the pics....

Belts and tensioner pulley

Re-assembled and clean

Still pending: clutch, pressure plate, release bearing, rear crank seal, tappet cover gaskets, thermostat. All suspension bushings.

yeah man thanks, the mechanic had the small one for balance shaft $75, and the others bought at various parts outlets $100-$145.

Now update on L200 maintenance Mileage now 227,xxx km. Last oil change at 219K using Royal Purple. Clutch master giving trouble, OEM repair kit on the way. I had bushings here a long time and just got some suspension parts to do overhaul but original suspension holding up still. Clutch is also holding up. See some pics of parts I'm collecting: pitman arm, ball joints, tie rods, bushings

Fast forward to 10/2019 :D :D

I have a couple updates to report.

Mileage now 278,xxx Km
Changed out clutch, pressure plate, release bearing, slave cylinder. Rear crank seal was also changed as gearbox was already out.

New HiFly tyres but I'm having issues with balancing them. Subsequently passed inspection.

Repairs done to alternator, charging is good but vacuum pump has slight leak.
Service done to starter.

Crank pulley developed a play and needed to be repaired.

I may have missed a few things since last update was 2 years ago.

Current issue is noise coming from rear suspension. Funny thing is noise only occurs while driving through rain/wet conditions. I suspect the shocks are the culprit and would try replacing those first as a method of elimination.

Other than the few minor issues, van is start and go. I'll try to update more often.
