Removing double sided tape

I have double sided tape stuck onto my car....does anyone know of a safe method to remove it without damaging the paint on my car?

On a serious note I would also love to know....want to change my plates but they are stuck with 3m double sided tape

I have had success with heat gun to soften it and *ducks flying brick* gas to rub off the residue.

if you don't have access to a heat gun, try a blow dryer and some dental floss or fishing line. Dunno if they sell goo gone down here, but if you don't want to use the pitch oil/ gas on your vehicle, it's a great product. If you have access to a degreaser like simple green, you could try that too.

I should also mention that if using the heat gun to not hold it one place for too long. It can damage your paint.
Move it around rapidly over the spot, hold like 6" away and use your hand to gauge the heat.

I think WD40 works to remove the goo too.

In many instances,I put the vehicle in the sun and when the vehicle body got hot and the double sided tape adhesive got tacky just rolled it off like chewing gum.
Any stubborn stuff was removed using some cheap prestone polish as a cleaner.

I have tried the cooking oil to take off some stickers before and it works great.dental floss also to get off the extra pieces if goo!
