My maternal side family is from Arima. I am fully aware who these ppl all are.timelapse wrote:Google Christo AdonisDizzy28 wrote:There are no first people In Trinidad.timelapse wrote:I am in support of the First People having this spot. Columbus enslaved them first
The Arima tribe is led by a man named Bharath Hernandez.
Generations of miscengation have ensured Trinidad doesn't have a true indigenous population unlike Guyana. Some American uni did a study of St Vincent and TT years ago to study the genotypes of the "first peoples". It was as expected.

That's not the point. These people need to be remembered in some way or the other. They don't even have a national holiday dedicated to them.Dizzy28 wrote:My maternal side family is from Arima. I am also willing to bet Adonis is probably 65% African, 10-15% European with a 5% East Indian.

I don't disagree with you on recognition. And I was always in belief that there should be one public holiday set aside for celebrating the various ethnicities - Indian Arrival, Chinese Arrival, European Arrival for those French creoles, Maderians etc. as well recognition of First People's. In a country with 14 PH plus Carnival we very well can't be giving everyone a day.timelapse wrote:That's not the point. These people need to be remembered in some way or the other. I also found the sculpture that was done for the Sando wharf facelift was very disrespectful towards these people. Is not everything has to be African and Indian so. We have Chinese here since before Indian Indentureship that we don't give a rat's arse about.
We really do not need carnivalDizzy28 wrote:I don't disagree with you on recognition. Just to back up my earlier point and now that I had some time to find the article.
Our First People actually have more native ancestry than St Vincent's. However African and European genetics still dominate the ancestry of the community.
