COVID vaccine passes. and SAFE ZONES Yay or Nay?

Postby redmanjp » June 18th, 2021, 5:52 pm

New York using them to reopen safely, but it also allows for PCR test for unvaccinated

https://covid19vaccine.health.ny.gov/excelsior-pass

California too, optional

St. Lucia allowing only vaccinated fans

Its a good idea on paper that can be used until we reach our herd immunity targets.

What would really happen is that the ministers would say it and the ministry have no idea what to do because no one other than cabinet discussed it. They would have no slips, no stamps and it ends up being from an inkjet printer and a 20 minute $50 rubber stamp that can get faked by anyone in a book store.

it should be a digital system as most i would imagine are.

don't support it at all. completely unenforceable (fake vaccination cards). gives false sense of security since no-one knows how long protection lasts.

a digital system can solve both issues. if MOH issues it via an app for instance, u use that, not your immunization card to get into places or travel. it can have a validity period programmed into it also. for travel there may probably have to have an international standard though.

Not in favour, because where will it stop after that? We have to be careful when we willingly want to give up our rights, and while I think that not getting vaccinated in the face of what is happening around us is pure folly. I respect the person's right to have that opinion, in spite of what I may get passionate and say to them.

Don't see why not.
Unvaccinated are a larger threat to the spread.

I don't see it as Orwellian, even.

Just society adapting to the environment as it were.

They definitely should do this just not right now, maybe starting it in early 2021 and allow fetes only to vaccinated patrons.

except the next thing is our vaccine efficacies against infection and transmission. it may still have to have other measures like limited capacity, masks, no alcohol, etc.

what are the odds the MoH have an electronic record for every COVID vaccination administered on the island? if we down to scanning user-submitted vaccination cards, bound for failure.

If u have gotten the vaccine, you would know that they take your info just prior to administration of the shot. If they computerize the records afterwards is anyone's guess.

MOH can issue the pass- u just walk with the immunization card they gave you as proof, assuming they don't already have a digital record. also implement a $50000 fine for fraudulent cards or passes.

Totally unenforceable, and will eventually be scrapped after the damage is done.
What's to stop a private business owner from disregarding whether or not a patron to his establishment was vaccinated and allowing anyone willing to spend their money in his business entry, vaccinated or not? You wanna put police and moh reps in every single business all day long to ensure proper compliance?

Sounds rather Nazi-Germany-ish

Agreed, T&T is still the place of "you eh know who is me orr?" Besides, the pips in fetes is the more exclusive it appears due to the presence of celebrities, real and imagined, the better attendance in the future.

Too late - Trinidad inherited the colonial legislation under the Public Health Acts.

The Vaccination Act 1853 made it compulsory for all children born after 1 August 1853 to be vaccinated against smallpox during their first 3 months of life. Parents who failed to get their children vaccinated would be subject to a fine.

By the 1860s, two-thirds of babies were vaccinated. As a result, there was a fall in the death rate due to smallpox.

However, reports of deaths and outbreaks created doubts about the effectiveness and safety of vaccines. Vaccination was opposed by people and organisations such as the anti-vaccination leagues.

I don't mind having some sort of vaccination passport if it means that the country can be opened up safely.

To some degree it already exists for some situations, eg a couple years ago when I travelled from the Gambia across to Senegal you could not get passed the border if you didn't have your yellow fever vaccination document with you.

OSHA needs to hurry up and enforce employers having the right to demand their employees vaccinate or refuse them being able to work. majority of companies want to work in a Martian of safety and do not want any people in close working space who can possibly spread this virus.

Pfizer will get full approval by the end of year, so while mandatory vaccination will not happen this year, expect some countries to do so next year or at least enforce it in many jobs or for travel etc
