it's doable, but it go be a hassle.
exactly what's the end objective you looking for? remote viewing & storage of footage? just worried about if sumn happens & someone leaves with the recorder and all the video?

exactly as i thinking, i have a camera to setup myself - it can take a microSD but if the thief goes with it u need an offsite copy in the cloud - anyone know a good affordable cloud service suitable for video footage?

not really, that's what ceilings ae for.
The trick is to have no wires/cables visible and within easy reach, and have your dvr and its power source concealed. Can't steal it if they can't see it & it not within reach.
Then do like everyone else, view or dl the footage on your phone.

Figured it out via youtube, you can configure iVMS to store to a NAS, which I have available. I will run a test if it works well I just continue if not I just get a NVR

people don't realize that CAT5 cables were never really made to do this, they were just repurposed. they will work, not saying otherwise, but eventually the copper wires in them degrade or even break and then that causes all kinda problems because they can't carry power efficiently.
you can get good quality ready made siamese cables relatively cheap these days.

https://www.amazon.com/ZOSI-100FT-Secur ... nce&sr=1-4

I brought two inside and made up the cables to the dvr. Night mode and they are showing good

Well after this test i was certain the problem was the cables. I ordered them from amazon. I hooked up one during the day but the video quality was actually worse that the cat5e during the day. Jus a few lines on the video all over then screen.
So i bought a camera this evening and having the same issue dammit with a new camera.

Well i finally figured out the problem. Spent a bit of money and have spares now but i still dont see the relation between the problem and the cause. From day one i noticed that the dvr adapter was real hot. I could not even keep my hand on it for more than 5s. I mentioned it to a couple pros but they shook it off. I swapped, cables, camera, camera power supply, even dvr and no change. So last night i decide to change the only thing i hadnt - DVR adapter. Problem solved. Cameras switching to night mode and no video loss. The new adapter is runnin alot warmer than the old one. Lookin back i did notice the dvr shutdown on me a couple of times but i thought nutten of it. Wow.
And to think this whole issue started with a “failed” hardrive. I put the old hard drive in a new dvr and boom it initialized.

This is why I hate using DVR/NVRs they built so crappy

So any suggestions on what brand of cameras to go with? HIK vision seems to be flooding the market. Looking for a 12 camera system with 16channel. Should it be nvr or dvr? Pros and cons?

The Amcrest system is robust.
Untouched for 5 years after installation...and a move
Customer service is great...follow up is fast.

And if I can set up anyone can.
The only caveat is that all the cable ran through conduit.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Where can I get this brand locally? Or did you bring it in?

I bought it on Amazon.
Before you buy make sure the system comes with enough cable...you can buy additional cables as 88 posted.

What causes this pink colour? Night mode works well. I suspect its the ir LEDs. Settings not helping. I scrap down the camera and aint find anything of note.

All those wires in the back of the dvr looked untidy. Probability of a loose screwed connection is less. Rj45 looks neater and it has a power LED built into it.
