Really? That's the best you could come up with?
I do almost entirely highway. My civic lasted 50k+ and my Koup lasted 35k+ km. And I can assure you I was a lot more 'spirited' with those. A friend's ASX lasted over 90k km.
17000km is unacceptable by any standards, and I would expect significantly better service from the dealership.
Then again, that's the typical sorta answer I and most others have come to expect from anyone at southern sales...

Have a lady friend that uses hers just to pick up and drop off children to school and faces the same problem. 20k and changing pads is ridiculous.

Guys, can the sportage run safely on super gas? What's the octane requirement?

Yes it is safe to use super in the sportage. However, it is recommended you use premium for better performance. for more info. you can contact your sales rep if the vehicle was purchased from the firm

They advise that its safe to use super, however they refuse to clean your injectors for you unless you use premium..

I did not advise the person. He asked and I answered. I advised him to use premium.

I never said you advised him to use super - i said you advised him that its safe to use super.
If a company and its reps say that its safe to use super, going as far as placing an ad on the papers (obviously so that buyers would choose their car expecting lower fuel costs) then its expected that proper service would be done on the car to that effect.

It seems like you had some issues with servicing, which they told you it is due to the use of super. I'm not sure of all the details but you can contact Richard (customer service rep) at your next service or if you need clarification on anything. He is very helpful and customer oriented.

Interested in the Sportage so what about the quality of the plastics, fabric, engine, mechanicals and electricals in the latest sportage model (2011 onwards)? Are they good and comparable with Japanese?
My mechanic says to stay away from Korean made vehicles from many previous problems seen in his garage, go with Japanese. The foreign online reviews are generally good. I love the re-designed model Sportage, but not sure. Need advice.

I would suggest asking actual owners of the sportage. I do not want to comment further... But please feel free to contact me for any information or assistance you may need.

There is a slight delay ... Negligible but there.

Almost 4000km on and going good.

Kia Motors,
A few questions on the sportage:
1. What exactly does the 3 yr warranty cover?
2. Can regular gas be used without voiding warranty,
specifically the cleaning of injectors?
3. Can gps be installed without voiding warranty?
4. What are the service intervals and the approximate costs
assuming no problems?

I have driven a diesel FWD 2011 sportage for about 30 months. Good power, great acceleration; slight noise at rear due to a loose plastic trim on the outside of the right side rear door.
$70 to fill from low fuel tk light - about 400Kms per tank with mostly short runs and occasional highway.
All brakes changed at 30,000Kms - aftermarket (ask for the Carens pads) and no brake dust since the change - was annoying with OEMs.
Looking at tyres in about six months (I'm retired -no pun intended).
Battery changed at 27 months (L&DG) also available cheaper at Pricesmart - with a little simple modification to the positive cable end - will do at next change.
Bad experiences at SS on first two visits ensures that I'm not going back day!!!
But i'd buy another sportage if this one doesn't outlast me.

Apologies for the overdue reply.

1. What exactly does the 3 yr warranty cover?
http://www.kia.com/us/content/media/en/ ... rranty.pdf. This was the only one I can find online but it is pretty much the same.

2. Can regular gas be used without voiding warranty,
specifically the cleaning of injectors?
You can use super gas; you pay at the service to clean your injectors. No voiding if warranty if you use super gas. Refer to warranty booklet at link above

3. Can gps be installed without voiding warranty?

It is not recommended that you put on GPS. It can void the warranty. Refer to warranty booklet at link above

4. What are the service intervals and the approximate costs
assuming no problems?

Service at every 7500km. Cost from first service is approximately $900 and up thereafter.

Got my new Sportage 3 weeks ago. It's a gas, 2WD and I love it! However, I'm experiencing an intermittent problem that started the day I drove out of the showroom. When taking off, there is a lag or hesitation in moving forward, and then a surge. It happens both when the engine is cold and warmed up on the road. It's not the fuel, since SS filled up with premium (I use super). I'm thinking it might be a transmission issue. Of course I'm taking it back to the dealer to check, but could anyone provide some insight?

Guys, I had my sportage service today.

Mileage is 57000kms.

Service was routine with oil/filters.
I thought the disc pads would have been changed since the original set was replaced at 30000kms.

The disc pads have approx. 40% left. I guess they might be replaced at my next service.

So far I have zero complaints. Its a 2012 AWD Sportage (gas) and she is working sweet. I am approaching 2 years so I will change my battery soon.
All the best until!!!
