Guys, so I installed new tyres on the sportage today.
The original tyres were 225/60/17 kumho k21 and I installed 235/60/17 kl33.

Make some hway runs and must admit that these tyres are very silent on the road. Hope to some wet traction reviews soon.

If anyone is interested, I have the original 225/60/17 kumho with over 50% treadwear for sale.
$1200 for ALL four. These are in great condition.

dennis.

Does the sportage come with factory alarm? or does the owner have to install his own?

The executive Sportage comes with an immobilizer ( this vehicle has push start/ keyless entry and start- a really cool feature). The basic model is outfitted with an after market alarm upon purchase.

Deterioration of disc pads are based on a persons driving pattern.

worksux101 and Marct what model year do you have? Or is this issue present in all the new design Sportages?

Even with our previous model 2009, I noticed the black dust from the disc pads. With that model SS changed out the disc pads at 30 k km. Disc pads changes at 15-17k km sounds a bit premature. Then again the dealership has a habit of changing them out early.

Driving was mainly city driving minimal highway runs.

Driving in the city constantly would use the braking system more than highway. Traffic lights, more stopping for other vehicles etc

I agree that 15-17kms is a bit disappointing.

I changed my disc pads on the sportage at 30k (front) & 35k(rear) and that includes hway driving. My 2012 cerato had 35k when I sold it and I never changed disc pads. I think the OEM pads are now are made from a more softer material. I changed pads at 40k on my sportero & I know someone who changed at 18k on another sportero. I know driving style has a lot to do with it but I believe the OEM pads ought to last a bit longer.

Yes it is

The OEM one will do that as explained by the Service Manager.
I got a Blue one installed the other day from the firm and so far the black dust is less

KIA Motors wrote:Deterioration of disc pads are based on a persons driving pattern.

I agree and Disagree...
the pads are softer now and not as strong as they used to be
but I still love the Sportage :D

yes it is disappointing. When we had our Almera our OEM brakes lasted well into 2years and it was doing the same distance the Sportage is doing right now...North and South runs.
We all know that things aren't being made the same way they were used to ie to last....the company needs to make money lol

Guys...so with the new tyres and Nitrogen the van is running OMG
BUT I rotated tyres the other day and I'm getting some steering shake from 120km-150km.
Alignment is good, Camber is good....do you think I need to speed balance again?
When I rotated I did speed balance and its only when the tyres were rotated it started to give this problem.
anything below 120km no steering shake

Vin123 ... The tyre shop that spin balance usually charge to spin balance the 4 wheels. However I've found over the years that only the front are properly balanced. After you rotate, you notice the shim on the steering, you end up going back to the shop. Once again they charge to spin balance your four wheels again but really only focus on the wheels that are the front.

It's a bit of a scam IMHO.

Hello LOL
I know...cuz the van is stable jus a lil vibration but can you speed balance only the front wheels?
I never check...last time I did all four.
I just check all wheels have the weights on it. I thought maybe as the wheels rotated that because of the wear that's why I got the vibration so I left it for a week of driving hoping that it would "even out" but it hasn't so will have to speed balance again cuz everything else is good.
thanks for the advice though

2011 Sportage isn't mentioned in the Article BUT THIS I have experienced :
"and the shift interlock not disengaging causing the transmission to be stuck in Park. To fix the problem, the brake lights switch will be replaced."

Heard some stuff about it having the same engine as the 2014 Tucson. Not sure though.
