Where in the trail? to a side or center? I didn't remember seeing any..

there is a spike in the ground, a 5" piece of rebar iron that's sticking out of the ground, on the last little hill before the beach. It's cast into a piece of concrete there and was bent down to the ground, to avoid stabbing people when they walk past it.

Still there, IIRC.

It's not really bent into the ground, or at least one piece is not. Last time I went up there, I met the caretaker of the house at the end, and he said a "white man roll over them and got 2 flat tyres on the sidewalls in one shot" He also said the unfortunate chap "cuss like wind" for the duration of the 4 hours or so that he had to wait for assistance.
