I bought a roro and it was registered H. It was a cash purchase and brought in under my name after getting an import license. On the certified copy it has stamped in red that vehicle cannot be transferred under 3 years. Does this mean transferred from H to P or from me to someone else.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Can I still import a car from 1999-2003? Is it restricted completely or can i pay yet another age tax to let it come in?

nope no cars older than 6 years can be imported as a RORO ... so in 2014 you can import a car manufactured in 2008 or after

1599cc and under the current MVT is $5.00 per cc for a new car. For a RORO you pay 75% only .. so effectively $3.75 per cc

I believe these to be the new figures

MVT
cc cc cost per cc
0 1599 5
1600 1799 8
1800 1999 15
2000 2499 25
2500 2999 30
3000 3499 35
3500 10000 50

Duty
cc cc cost per cc
0 1599 0.20
1600 1999 0.35
2000 2999 0.40
3000 10000 0.45

Is the MVT tiered? meaning that for a 2400cc engine they charge:

$5 for the first 1599cc
$8 for 1600 to 1799cc
$15 for 1800 to 1999cc
$25 for 2000 to 2400cc

or simply $25 * 2400

I believe it is the latter....wish it was tiered though.

You may have to seek approval from the Transport Commissioner first and then apply to MOT&I for import license.

I believe both parties must go to the Licensing Office.

If however both parties cannot be present at the same time, the previous owner can go sign his documents and do his part and they'll lodge the documents in a file until the new owner can come and finish the transaction, within the legal one week period for transferring a vehicle that is. I know this for a fact because I transferred a vehicle like that. Previous owner went last week and I went to the Sando office just this morning and got through.

Hope this helps.
