The Trinidad and Tobago Karting Association will be staging their 9th and penultimate Event this coming Sunday at the ARC Car Park, Arima. And the challenges for Championship honours in the various Classes is getting even more heated.
This Event will see the return of competition in the Shifter Class, the fastest karts on race day, with six competitors vying for points to see who will be best at the end of the year.
The Rotax International Class sees Ryan Peyrau holding a comfortable 23 points lead over the vastly improved Craig Sumair. But Sumair has been driving like a bat out of hell, even posting fastest lap time of the day over all comers. Aaron Lee is 21 points adrift of Sumair, but his consistency in recent Events will definitely see him attempting to make a bold challenge on race day.
The Rotax Masters sees the most experienced drivers eagerly battling head to head despite their “maturity”, and really put on a show that’s the envy of the younger competitors. Gerard Carrington has a comfortable 30-points lead over the ever-improving Fyzool Madan who is ahead of Aslim Ali by just 18 points.
Saleem Deen has shown an incredible consistency in the 100cc Class, and holds a slim 6-points lead over lone female competitor Bridget Singh who dominated this Class over the past two years. Shane Pinheiro, in his first full year of competition, has displayed a battling spirit well beyond his youthful 12 years, and will be fighting to improve on his 10-points lead over another young competitor Che Carrington.
The very youthful competitors in the Cadet Class, with the full backing of their over-enthusiastic parents, have provided very close competition throughout the year. But the consistency of one driver – gaining first-place awards in six of the 8 events to date - has paid off and young Nicholas Madan enjoys an incredible 96-point lead over his closest challenger. Madan was presented with an FIA Karting Award in 2009 in Mexico, and is set to run away with his Class and possibly the Overall Karting Champion for 2010. One of the youngest drivers in Karting, Enrique deLeon is second in points in this Class and holds a slim 4-point lead over third placed Jonmycal Sant with Isa Deen just 8 points behind,
There will be fifteen races run off on Sunday with the five Classes having 3 races each. Racing starts promptly at 12 Noon on Sunday.
