Pariaman I bought the new revo with the 2.8.
This blog was the first hit I got while looking for info.

And I must say the revo is loaded with features that the local firm does not offer and drive like a dream on we so called shiet diesel and is quiet and give 700 km to the thank

Nobody could catch me on market hype and he say they say stupidNess. I have a email from toyota (not trinidad) stating that it does not need ultra low sulphur diesel. 500 ppm is the max and we fall in that bracket nicely.

I have not had for every long it's just going into 2 months at the end of this month.

If I get any issues come up, rest a sure you will hear about it.

Like I notice one issue as you mention your D4D gives you 780km. It looks like the estimated range is not accurate because when I fill up it says 700km.

I never ran the tank under 1/4 but I figure it will do about 850 km.

I believe the situation similar to Nissan and the newer
ys23 engine vs the older yd25 engine.
Please report back to us... Would like to know how it goes with the GD engine, any fuel treatments you use and the oil you use.

Engine Applicable Models Recommended Fuel Allowable Fuel
Engine

2.8 GD-6 (1GD HI) Hilux (All body types) Recommended Allowable
Fortuner 50ppm or lower 500ppm
2.5 D-4D VNT (2KD-FTV VNT) Hilux Double Cab
Fortuner 50ppm or lower 500ppm
3.0 D-4D (1KD-FTV) Prado 50ppm or lower 500ppm

Seems like the requirements for the New 2.8 and the old 3.0 are the same.

If that is the case then why not the new model?

http://www.carscoops.com/2015/06/toyota ... ly-of.html

""The new GD family of diesel engines will gradually replace the current KD engines, with Toyota estimating an annual production of approximately 700,000 units by 2016, when they will be offered in 90 markets worldwide. By 2020, the new engines will expand to at least 150 markets.""

It seems to me more a question of just phasing out rather than incompatibility.

Yup exact same requirements. But I have noticed that toyota product placement team seems to be sending the D4D to third world countries. Jamaica and Malaysia two places I saw so far could be that these countries dealers asked for the vehicle to be fitted with the older engine

Do people know that while different markets get the same engine that they can be tuned differently. Quoting fuel requirements for one country doesn't always equate to the same engine in another country

Tru but no one has shown any official info that the requirements are different while we know for sure that the engines are being phased out

For me no new model with old engine.
I honestly do not believe Toyota will go to the larger markets with a new model with an old model engine as the only option

Anyone know what is the cetane requirement for the GD engine in the revo hilux

Most diesel vehicles are 500ppm and lower. That is a good figure to work with.
Trinidad diesel = 3000-4000ppm

Thank you.
The cetane Requirement is the same for the KD series of engines.
The owners manual for the KD never listed a sulphur value though... Will check later and confirm

That's the big issue here is the requirement for the KD higher?

Btw I can confirm that the 3.0 engine in the revo sold by Toyota has the EGR blanked out.

I spoke to a Toyota mechanic who informed me. Also I went to the showroom and noticed this for myself

thanks but does blanking out the EGR on the 3.0 currently being sold have a significant impact or difference from the other engines the 2.8 or older gen 3.0L?

"New exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) units on diesel engines amplify the amount and abrasivity of soot production."

http://www.machinerylubrication.com/Rea ... ntaminants

Also

http://www.heavyequipmentforums.com/sho ... hur-diesel

"My experience with high-sulphur (2000ppm) fuel is that modern high-spec engine oils perform fine if you run them up to the manufacturer's recommended oil change interval. Run them even a small amount past that (as an example 285 hours on an oil that should be changed every 250) and the analysis results drop off sharply. "

Seems as though High Sulphur is only a problem if you go beyond the 5000K interval otherwise the engine will work fine!

Nope Hinds is juss a kunny.

I spent a good few days doing research as to why some parts of the world are supplied with the old 3l engine.

Ford did not understand third world counties still have bad diesel that's why in trini loads of rangers was shutting down. Ford Trinidad had to by pass the sensor for that reason and having to get a heavy T I blanked ford.

Toyota on the other hand knew about our diesel and the 3l is a proven engine, the 2.8 is yet tobe proven.
Plus I had own a second hand Hilux before for 10 years without any problems, but it was a 2.2 gas engine which is a never done engine.

So why you hadda be on the Ranger case man ? I'm sure Team Loco put you up to that.....:)

So far no problems. Pickup about to hit the 7 month mark. I never added any fuel treatments and I always fill up at unipet 360 or ramco trincity.

I really like the ones from maska with the features compared to toyota but I always hear people talking about the diesel with the new engines... I want one but that's allot of money to be worried about so I'm waiting a bit... maybe till the end of the year... I'll check back in a few months for an update lol

Hi guys
Just a quick update while it's a bit embarrassing It happened.
I began to hear a snapping noise whenever I would accelerate while in low speed traffic and immediately release the pedal. Offcourse paranoia kicked in, so a called the firm to schedule a visit. They were very accommodating and got the Saturday bocked on short notice hats off to the M. Rampersad support staff.

Anyways after crying the sky was falling the senior mechanic took a test drive with me and in 10 minutes came back and told me the jack was lose and would rock back and forth. As he said that it made sense as I took out the jack to use the screw driver in the office and replaced it in a hurry as rain was falling.

Total worthless on my end. As that should have been the first thing to check from past experience, but assumed the worst.
