Doing 140km in a pickup and you want to go faster ,first time driver ,young and stupid
You might kill yourself or someone else on the road
You should vist some police stations where they keep vehicles after accidents and see some pickups wreckage after speeding .

I have a manual 2015, never tried to find top speed but it can reach 140 and more steadily and not barely gasping.

Where do you buy fuel ?
I used to buy fuel at cocorite, after a bad tank of diesel and full cleanout it is much faster than before.
Previously I would need to keep rpm in turbo min rpm band to get over lady young in 3rd gear
now I dont even have to worry about that.

btw xplode this is my 6th vehicle and i gave up circuit racing soo lets not go there esp wen i work at a station....soo back to relevant information if its governed or not cause i want not only speed but accel on dirt stretches wen i running trails...oh pugboy i does normally refuel at the unipets...not np stations and i run treatments every soo often...think i may check my electrician on this because i puttin in the performance chip to get it from 75kw to 130kw adjustable and change the injector railing etc...just for that bit of extra torque n rpm

 so you want to go 140km + when you running trails
if you wanted more should put more cash and buy the 1KD
op i had all the model Hilux's the 2.7 VVTI gas , 2.5 2KD and the 3.0 1KD sold all except the 2.5 why power not speed and trouble free.

I hardly drive above 120 on mine
not comfortable with high vehicles at that speed.

Don't assume all unipet stations have clean fuel tanks.
The most they might do is pump out the water and sludge at the bottom of the tank
but I doubt they send anybody down to clean the diesel algae on the tank walls.

With the manual 4th gear carries u up to 120km/h with ease (meaning good acceleration) and rpm can go up to 4000 but when in 5th it reaches 140km/h and then slowly climbs to 150-155km/h max and rpm seems as if it's limited to 3500. Maybe that's ur answer

Wheel size and diesel quality can also affect performance greatly. But I'll say 140-160 is the range of the 2kd with original wheels, once I put in a larger wheel and could only get up to 137km/h

the 1kd auto can do 180km/h with ease.

I get up to 155-160 with a manual 2kd at 100,000km's

I average around 120km....don't feel.safe going above this on the highways in this vehicle...but do notice at times that I crosssed to130 km without knowing it....haven't tried to put a heavy foot down to cross 140...but I am sure it would not difficult...

I have the same problem with the 3.0 1kd model.
It doesnt want to go more than 140km.
Before it wasnt going more than 120km, I used a liqui moly system reinger inside the tank and then after i put amsoil cetane boost.
It started to perform ok, but still issues with the 140km. Or it takes longer to go pass 140km.

you got injector or fuel supply problems of some sort
if you are smoking then the soot may buildup in your turbo vanes and
eventually cause failure of the turbo and also burn the turbo electronic control unit

thanks alot fellas...appreciate the help....did the treatment on fuel...got it serviced...did some more research because them toyota sales reps aint no much abut anything...basically the 2kd is under powered and built more on shorter ratios etc for power and affordability aparently...1kd just is better bet with top end...but did all my mods...dont really need to go past 140...just was curious....to know if it was just me lol

Never liked that engine to be honest.. Drove a manual in one and was very much disappointed in the performance. The old school WL from the Rangers / BT50s are much better performers.

Puts down about 74hp at the wheels stock..

The 2.5 auto is capable of crossing 150... It takes a little while but it is possible. I think it is capable of reaching 170 but I didn't want to thrash the engine harder as at 150 you would be up to 3k rpm; emergencies arose in which I made the decision to MOVE. Air condition was turned off as I don't want my compressor clutch biting in at higher engine speed
The manual on the other hand is geared shorter so it might have a lower Top speed.
I am on the 17" OEM wheels which are a bit heavier than the 15"
