New 2016 Hilux Suspension from Toyota Trinidad

Postby GDI » December 17th, 2015, 10:46 am

Buyers please note that the 2016 Hilux comes in three options for the suspension:

Standard
Comfort and
Heavy Duty.

Toyota Trinidad is only bringing in the heavy duty which is very uncomfortable. The test drive I took before buying mine was on relatively smooth roads so did not realize how bad it was.

I have been driving a Navara for the last 5 years. The Hilux suspension is like an old Bedford truck. People who are not accustomed to driving a pickup may feel what they are experiencing is normal. I complained to Toyota and asked about changing out parts to the comfort suspension but no feedback after more than 2 weeks.

Took salesman and tech from Toyota on a ride and my 6 years old Navara and both realized the suspension was better.

The worst part is Toyota is not informing customers about the differences and what they are buying.

Service Department is saying deal with Sales and Sales saying to deal with Service Department.

Buyer beware.

If you coming from a Navara to a Hilux you will find the Hilux is stiffer. Navara has the softest suspension of all pickups. It is also the most car-like. So what you are experiencing is normal and there is nothing wrong with the Hilux suspension.

Funny...when I test drove both the navarra and hilux I found the navarra suspension e worst than the hilux....salesman realised the navarra was pretty stiff rough and bouncy.....he said it's because of over inflated tyres....

After owning the vehicle for 4 days tire pressure was adjusted to 28 or 29 psi per the manual. Came from Toyota with 32psi. The reduction did not make a noticeable difference.

Still waiting on feedback from Toyota.

How much kms u doing? As time goes by the suspension should get softer. You could always drop some weight in the tray to help settle things

Not sure about the 2016 but there are differences between the previous model Vigo and the 2.5 with the Vigo having thinner bars in the leaf spring. I have also realised that tyres play a huge part in ride quality; not just pressures. HT tyres are almost always smoother than AT tyres. LT tyres tend to have more reinforcement than regular tyres and that extra support makes them uncomfortable unless they are transporting load
