hey guys, I just bought a np300, 4x4 auto. when I accelerate to 20km from a stop, and mash the brake, im getting thud sound and slight jerk, I can feel the jerk from the floor.
feels like a loose battery slidng around or something loose and sliding about in the tray.
van is currently doing 900km, but I noticed it since the first day I got it. took it to rampersad, they checked it and the mechanic said all 4x4's do that.
did some research of my own, think it might be diff backlash,
help pls

Dat mechanic has mango tree withdrawal syndrome... op 4x4 vans dont have a sliding yolk that goes into the tranny. But a sliding joint on the drive shaft... when you accelerate the shaft slides out as torque causes diff rotation. When you decelerate its supossed to slide back in smothly. If it wasnt lubricated properly it will stick and will slide in when under alota pressure= loud thud with effects..... so go buy a grease gun and grease crawl in find d nipples and greass it yourself... dont rely on those guys who may not do anything when u go to service. If u want itdone right do it yourself

OP what ur getting is not really a problem, simple trouble shoot for your problem, next time accelerate and when ur going to stop, shift into "N" and just depress the brake pedal, see if the problem is still there, and the mechanic is correct, all 4X4s do that, just different vehicles absorb it better tru their drivetrain, what u getting is called axle wrap, auto navaras experience this the most, worse again when they are lifted, then again some dont, not all vans are the same spec/built/plant/transaxle etc.......
this link has some of the best descriptions and solutions to the problem,
http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/1st-ge ... p-mod.html D40s comes with some soft rear springs, good for flexing and they take away from the rigidity of a pickup making the rear seat ride a bit easier, buit that decreases the load carrying capacity, i personally dont see how a 900km old van could need greasing, yes the slip yoke needs to slide, but unless its a swapped part, it is supposed to be in perfect working condition.....

X2. At some dealers, the quality of the install of some of those Aftermarket parts is very poor.

I notice that if I do not engage 4WD for about a week I start to hear & feel it.
Not a problem anymore since I drive in dirt everyday.

Because the authorized ones supposedly know what they're doing/ don't partake in bobol?
The after sales service at many authorized stealerships are far from stellar as well.

Basic leaf spring axle wrap symptoms, I guess the ones from Massy won't have this problem since they are coil springs in the rear.
