WTK tint limits on a pickup

Postby colipark » October 17th, 2013, 9:49 am

good day tuners
can anyone share some info on this subject
the reason I am putting this topic is that yesterday in marabella a police officer stopped me and told me that my van was tinted to dark and I have to peel it off or take the vehicle to the station and have some one come there and remove the tint, so I asked the officer which tint I have to remove (now keep in mind I have no tint on the back doors as the glass came tinted so no tint film on it and the two front doors have tint film which matches the back glass so you can see through the vehicle) so the officer stood at an angle where u cannot see inside and was trying to convince me that this is where I have to look at it, at the same time another pickup passed and I asked the officer if his tint was ok and he said yes and this vehicle was darker than mine, so he told me all the tint on the doors has to be removed so I told him there is no tint on the back doors he insisted that there was tint so I told him if he starts to remove it I will finish it so he started to check if there was tint, when he realized there was none he told me I can go. so my question is what is legal and is there any law that allows commercial vehicles to have darker tint at the back glass and back doors

any info will be greatly appreciated

Purely subjective on the officers part, tint varies from minute to minute with some officers and just when you go to the tint place they will tell you the lighter ones to go with. It doesn't generally make sense to fight up with these officers because it is not standardized but obviously don't go with the heaviest tint available and then complain

I have 20% on doors and 35 on the back and 5% on the band on the windscreen.
Passed thru several road blocks and no problem,
However when I approaching the roadblock i take down the front windows ad bring down the back 3/4 way down!

Gotz 20% rite around on all my vehicles, and a 5% band in front, 10 inches on the front windshield. Never had an issue with roadblocks or being pulled over.

the legal limit for passenger vehicles is 35% , for goods vehicles i think its is lower ...although not sure what the legal definition of goods vehicle is ...personally i use 35% although it's light really wanna avoid police telling me anything ..
