B2500 service assistance

Postby ThatDamnDrunk » January 30th, 2013, 2:19 pm

Hey guys, I'm looking to do a service on a 2001 B2500 turbo (4x4). I just require some assistance in gathering some parts. This is my first time buying parts for the van so please bear with my "noviceness".

Oil Filter: I went by Ford (McEnearny) and $75 for OEM seems to be a good price over the substitue Micro parts offered by SSL ($50) or Sakura from Autorama El Socorro ($46).

Oil: I'm biased to Amsoil; I hear Ford recommends 15W-40 Synthetic. Anything else I should be aware of? Also, where's a good source to get this oil as I hear it could be expensive. I'm in the North West.

Fuel Filter: Definitly need some advice with this one as it's $250 for an OEM one by McEnearny; $150 by SSL for Micro parts and $46 for a Sakura at Autorama. The Mazda is currently running a Sakura fuel filter in it. I was leaning to buy the Sakura (pricewise plus one was there before) as a mechanic told me that our diesel is of poor quality meaning that fuel filters have to change often anyways but I heard someone on the trinituner forums complaining of sakura filters leaving element in the strainer (scary?). Do I have any other options here? Also, I would appreciate it if someone could tell me the recommended time to change a fuel filter.

Air Filter: I'm going K&N with this one as I hear they're reusable. Are there any known issues with cleaning these though?

Also, in a bit I'm thinking of getting the differentials checked. I don't think the differential oil has been changed for quite some time, and I get a "clak clak" noise from the rear when I have to make a hard lock at low speed. A family member of mine said it may have to do with the "flanges in the LSD needing changing" (I have no idea what that means). Any reccomendations for where I may be able to do this? Trying to avoid going to a dealership as much as possible.

Thanks.
