FINALLY!! :D

Good day guys,

Long time no talk. I'm proud to say that i purchased a second hand Ford Ranger yesterday :)

I got it for a good price IMO and i plan to fix her up real nice as i get the time and money.

I will post some pictures maybe later today of how she looks just as i bought her. Then maybe weekend or Monday or so i can get up some pics when i finish cleaning her up so you guys will have before and after shots.

I'm real excited to finally be a part of the forum officially as i own my own truck now :D

The truck doesn't give a single problem right now but i would still like to do a full service by this weekend to ensure it stays that way and i can keep track of the mileage from there.

Any pointers, recommendations, etc will be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks again for the support guys.

Regards,
Paul.

i hope this link works. tuner is saying files are too large to upload.

this is exactly how i bought the truck. gonna be doing some cleaning up today hopefully. a lot of the chrome accents and the graphics will be removed, not really my style.

the truck has potential IMO so I'm gonna try my best to take full advantage of it.

like i said, its what i could have afforded at the moment and i got it at a good price. also it doesn't give any problems right now.

let me know what u guys think

Nice! what is the mileage you got it at?

take it to a reputable diesel garage to check out everything - pay very close attention to temperature - check and make sure there is no cracks on the head. Or better yet - install a better radiator than the plastic one there now.

Major problems with these are transmission and overheating. check out the Ford ranger thread to learn more about these problems.

BOOM!! A ford man is made.... cONGRats on the new (old) truck man!
You made a good buy, those rangers are sturdy and won't let you down.

Haven't heard a regretful ranger owner yet.

What the others say about the WL and WLT engine having problems with head cracking - yes it's true.
Have a good radiator guy check your entire cooling system
And here's a hint - have a close look at your radiator clutch fan - make sure the bearings and lubrication are good (lots of folks overlook this) - could be the source of heating problems.
Also what civic_minded said about getting a metal-radiator, that's good advice. Maybe install a nice little 3-core rad.

So you coming out on a run soon awaatt??
We have big plans later in the year... we'll keep a space for ya in the lineup :D :D

I'm a huge ranger fan, so I real excited for ya'.... congrats again bruddaman!

Ha!!!

One like mines........For sure you are going to enjoy driving this beast.....

Just be careful on wet road if you shoes are not to good, also i changed my rad to full metal cost at 1600 by Singhs radiator to prevent what everyone will tell you about the head weakpoint......bought mine from first owner at 40k mileage, regular oil change and service and your good to go.....

Good luck......

okay no time to take pictures yet but just a small update.

the truck is working fine. no problems whatsoever. since i bought it, all i had to do was machine the rotors as they were severely warped. i have about 5000k left until my next service. i got a service record of the truck and everything matches up.

suspension is solid. no problems. oh i got it at 136,xxx kms and its currently at 141,xxx kms.

engine never overheated or showed signs of overheating. no smoke, except on the first start-up of the day, which i expect is normal.

i bought it with a brand new clutch set so that's not a problem.

4WD works great!! went off-road a couple times. it showed its capability when i went up Paramin from maracas side a few weeks ago and i came back out on the "hard" trail. i dunno who here knows what i'm talking about or can attest to how difficult this can be. especially with a pick up, with barely any wheel lock. but i got out fine and it was actually really fun!

any other questions, feel free to ask. i don't know what else i can say from here. since the old pics, i "cleaned" up the truck a bit so ill try to get those pics up soon.

Nice truck dude! Like sweeks said, take good care of the cooling system....check the radiator, radiator cap, look for gunk/oil in the coolant, and check thermostat & clutch fan on a regular basis...and the obvious white smoke and overheating (which you're already looking out for anyway.) WL's have a well documented head cracking problem on this forum. But don't get too worried about that, just keep it well maintained.

Rangers are great trucks, take good care of them and they will last a long time.

Hey guys!

I know i really haven't been updating this thread but I haven't really had the time.

Unfortunately i must update by saying that I will be going abroad early next year so the ranger is up for sale.

The good news is, when i get back, i WILL be purchasing a new truck so i'll be back on the forums :D

I posted a for sale thread in the classifieds section. If anyone is or knows anyone who's interested let me know.

The truck is perfect IMO. No problems/ issues whatsoever.

Anyway, feel free to check out the post

Thanks a lot for the help guys. I've been reading up on maintenance of these vehicles on these forums LONG before i bought mine and will continue to read on until and after i get my other one.

congrats Paul. she looks like a really good platform to start off with. nice colour and rims. remove those crazy decals though. keep her nice and clean.

from my experience with the wlt (We have two at work doing 300000kms +), make sure you get those metal radiators in, keep that 5000kms service up to date. the wlt is a very picky engine so make sure you keep her clean. other than that, they are very good power houses
