qd32 diesel pump strainer

Postby qd32 » February 18th, 2010, 2:59 pm

Can anyone tell me how to clean the strainer in the diesel pump of the qd32?

I was told that these vans get a little sluggish when the strainer is blocked.

help appreciated.....[/b]

follow the metal fuel line into the pump [it curves around the back, near to the block] and you will find a 17mm banjo bolt. slacken it off using a long extension and b careful not to lose the washers. fish out the retaining spring using a wire and then curve the wire end and fish out the strainer.

i repeat, dont drop or lose the small parts (be sure to park somewhere u can retrieve stuff when it falls)

the strainer can be reverse sprayed using 'bars' carb cleaner and then re-assemble. before tightening the bolt, depress ur primer pump to expel air, tighten, then relese primer. just to be sure start and bleed injectors as usual.

if it was clogged u will se a Huge difference, esp in turbo models. usually gets clogged from failed filter, so check that also

Well carry it by someone who KNOWS what they doing...

Easiest way to avoid this issue to use high quality or OEM fuel filters and change them regularly.

$200 each for the OEM diesel filter, the Sakura $35 each but will have to change at shorter intervals (3000 km or else you will have to drain it frequently to maintain optimum performance)

^^^i've used the sakura regularly, it is supplied with a new o ring but the threaded part at the bottom is slightly bigger so DO NOT overtighten as it will strip the threads on ur float housing. on our maxis we change all filters at the same time.

Thanks !

Will look into it. Have been getting some hesitation on the frontier and have changed all filters etc. Couldn't hurt to check this.
