i've recently come upon a td27 turbo manifold c/w turbo! i was toying with the idea of turboing my non turbo td27! any pro's and con's to doing this???

do not do that,, most parts between the boosted and n/a are significantly different in diesel engines
buy a factory boosted engine and work from there

^^^^^ yeah? how so? both engines (i assume) work on a low compression ratio! both head and block looks the same! The only difference i think is the manifold! Please correct me if i'm wron g! ADRIAN I NEED YOUR HELP ON THIS!

i think the head is different .....not 100% sure on this

the head and block is the same but the pistons are different......i am not sure if the bore of the cylinders are of the same diameter but the top of the turbo pistons are shaped differently, it also uses different connecting rods which accommodate larger piston pins

as long as you keep boost below 10 psi you should have no problems.
ensure that you use the turbo injector pump which has the boost diaphragm and get all water and oil lines plumbed properly. compression ratio between turbo and non-turbo is the same but a few components on the turbo 27s are stronger, drive sensibly and it'll work fine

^^exactly, the first thing u need before u even think about it is the Turbo injector pump,
or u will have to open up ur stock pump and u will real black smoke when not in boost...
and yes the internal of the TD27 turbo and non turbo are different, the pistons, rods and crank....
the head can be substituted....

The TD27 Turbo is has different internals....the pistons are different..
the Compression Ratios are Different >>Non-turbo is a High Compression and the Turbo are Low compression..
Also the Injector pump in the turbo is defferent, the TDturbo pumps more fuel when in boost...
It Should work, but u'll hav to Tune the pump...and IF u get it to work, it will rell Run >> Booost + High Compression...
Dunno how long it will last tho...should be safe if u Run low boost

I was going to do this but I gave up on the project...the non-turbo td27 is high compression...adding a turbo to a high compression engine might only work to your disadvantage...it is a strong engine but it will be damaged in the end..

a diesel engine literally runs on detonation, and compression ratio on the td27 is in the order of 21.8:1.
even if compression is lower in the td27T, it is not by much (for the sake of starting and efficiency, as well as driveability off-boost) but i do agree that many components are stronger. the same risk associated with a high-compression turbo gas engine does not apply entirely to diesels. i have boosted my ISUZU C223 without dropping compression, turbo pump or intercooler and it still runs flawlessly 7 years on getting 10psi boost every day.

so wait, the non turbo pump can be modified to suit turbo application

not afaik, the turbo pump enriches and advances diesel injection depending on rpm and boost (via the diaphragm). the non turbo pump governs using rpm only. boost is almost never proportoinal to the rpm so there are definite points where the engine will run rich (example: puffs of black smoke when in the wrong gear for climbing hills) or lean (hitting 10psi in 5th at maybe 2000 rpm) if using the non turbo pump. i found a good compromise is having it slightly rich if using a small turbo, slight smoke off boost (which isn't often with a small turbo) but runs well as the turbo comes in.

Can someone please tell me exactly what parts I would need to do this conversion?
I'll need the Turbo, manifold and the turbo diesel injector pump...but anything else?...
going to try this conversion...
