once it's diesel, 15W40 is what recommended for our climate.
In colder climates like England they use 10W40 or 10W30

You do understand that in our climate 10w-40 will be the same as 15w-40 seeing as the first figure is the winter or cold viscosity, therefore is not really relevant to Trinidadian buyers..

In the end, i just follow whats in the vehicle manuals temperature chart, and I dont pretend to know more than the engineers who built the engine..

^ x2.. I use the 15W40 because of the mileage on my motor and don't want to run the 20W50 as I am trying to achieve the best fuel economy..

You are correct. There is in fact no need for multigrade oils with our temperature range of 15 degrees. In fact we require a straight 50 body oil. Thats all.

Now based on the properties of fluids, viscosity, etc, a "thinner" oil would offer less resistance, meaning a more laminar flow at the microscopic level. This results in improved efficency of the engine. Less work that the engine has to do to overcome the forces acting against it. If that makes sense to you at all...

It is also alledged that using a multigrade oil assists with morning starts, as the oil pressure builds faster, allowing better lubrication for the first 4 seconds of engine operation. But, I will leave that alone...

Amsoil spends their time and money formulating quality oils, not quality bottles like many other oil companies.

used the Amsoil today

I am plesantly surprised

after changing teh oil I did ~ 100km of driving, the oil still has the brownish colour that it had in the can. it has not turned black

engine is idling much quieter too

previously had Mobil1 in there

GGRRRRRR!!!!

Quieter than Delvac? Say it aint so!!!

Still gots a full 5000 km on the Shell to work through till I change.

Good point to note for the Toyota guys who are using OEM filters, who change filters every other oil change. Amsoil should match your filter change interval well... I may be inclined to do the same...

Anyways... PRICE :?: :?:

Mobil 1 delvac is distributed by Lange Trinidad.
Heard from a reliable source that they may be phasing it out though....

Anyway, I've been using the Amsoil Cetane Boost & Amsoil Diesel Concentrate for the past month 3 weeks in the Navara - power is great, no smoking, and engine runs smooth as ever.

Gonna start using it in the Frontier too.

LH, do you use both of them at each fill up considering that your truck is new?

Last price I saw for Delvac was about the same... $260+ per gallon.

How long will you be running the Delvac in the engine?

I used to run mine to 10,000km.

I will check my sources for Delvac in the week if I get a chance.

I'm using the new amsoil diesel oil, AMSOIL Premium API CJ-4 Synthetic 15W-40 Diesel Oil

Image

used the AMSOIL SAE 15W-40 Heavy-Duty Diesel and Marine Motor Oil last time but cant really tell the difference between the API and SAE, however the API is more expensive

my engine (4M41 DiD) rated for ACEA A1/B1, A3/B3, A3/B4 or A5/B5 or API CD or higher spec oils

The Amsoil synth 15W-40 Heavy duty Diesel & Marine has this rating, but doesn't have a SAE rating on the specs at the back of the gallon - strange that it doesn't, but the one you posted does

I paid $295 per gallon, was feeling like I paid too much

now that u say that the other oil is a different rating, then I not feeling so anymore, as it is a different rating.

Reason that I went with Amsoil is because it is specially formulated to control soot and for EGR equipped engines

im gonna blank my egr tomorrow, and next week im due for an oil change, so im gonna try the amsoil 15w40 premium.

same reason like venum, less soot and egr purposes.
I also wanna try the schaffers oil, as my co workers used it and they said that it was very good aswell.
