Walk into DM service center POS and ask them to see some diesel from Japan. They have some in a bottle over a year now and the thing still clear like vegetable oil.

neckto,
I doubt that we were intended to get it anyway

as I said previously, to have the clean (GTL) diesel available at local fuel stations, they (the fuel stations) would have to install tanks to store it

none of the existing stations have done so

the only possibility that i see is the new stations that are being built by NP and Unipet and those that just re-opened (e.g Carousel Gas Bar, Cocoyea)

if they selling Clean Diesel then they need a place to store it

I doubt that they gonna just store it in their existing diesel tanks

haven't heard of any stations that cleaning their tanks either

Another state owned managed project. The amount of money that went into this GTL plant and at the end of the day, TNT has nothing to show.

^^^ You should check out the 'newer' gas stations or visit the ones that have a high turnover....that is the ones that have a lot of trucks/maxis going through regularly. These stations have to replenish their underground tanks more often. If possible you can ask the service attendants how often or on which day (and time) they get diesel from the delivery trucks and fill up only on those days. You van will run much better on fresh diesel

X2

Stick to teh newer ones and those with overhead storage tanks (less water in these)

not sure if that would be a good idea as the new diesel may churn up the dreggs at teh bottom of teh underground tank when filling

just a thought

^^^ I usually fill-up at Medford by Endeavor Flyover. They get A LOT of traffic going through everyday and my van is always running smooth after a fill-up at that station. A friend of mine who works nearby (and is responsible for servicing/filling up his company vehicles) has seen NP Technicians regularly changing the filters in the pumps. So I guess the dreg levels isn't much to worry about there.

Not anywhere good esp if you have a common rail diesel. I was hoping by now this would have been sorted out since I have one. Thank God no problems but I'm extra careful.

I think it's the same supplier - NP but the pumps and tanks are newer/cleaner ... I could be wrong.

So is it safe to say that our diesel supplied locally has a high sulphur content equal and greater than 350 ppm?

Usually does not exceed 250 ppm.

Reading thru this thread is depressing with respect to GTL and ULSD.

a by-product of burning diesel is sulphuric acid....the more sulphur, the more acid....this throws off the TBN of the oil (pushes it towards acidity)....this has a negative impact on engine oil, and can potentially harm the engine over time....two solutions exist: shorten oil drain intervals, or find a high-TBN oil that is more resistant to the effects of sulphur.....for our diesel, a TBN of 12 is generally required in commercial applications.....problem is no synthetic 5W40 or 30 diesel oil has that high a TBN number....so you're left with 3,000km oil change intervals :-/

And as I see MG Man spreading knowledge,

I am looking at the proper engine oil to use for 2012 Mazda BT

Owners Manual says,

For markets wih low sulphur content, less than 350 ppm - SAE 5W-30 (preferred) , 5W-40, 10W, 10W-40

For markets with with high sulphur content equal and greater than 350ppm - SAE 10W-30, 5W-40, 10W-40

So, I thinking with the info I getting so far, our diesel is not THAT high in sulphur and I should use the 5W-30.

I would recommend the Amsoil Signature Series 10W30 for that application.
