V2NR - loco is the man of steel. Told u that u won't be disappointed

newbie, i would like to try something else next rounds, prob BFG A/T's if i can get them when they on sale

i am not disappointed with the Toyo's at all, they work really well

so if i can't get something better (like the BFG's) then i would definately go back to the Toyo's

^^ Venum,

I believe Quickserv did have the BFG's on sale - the sale price was $1550 though. I think original retail price was $1800 and change.... not sure if the sale still going on.

What about Ironman Electra tyres? It's an imitation of the BFG's A/T - same tread patter and whitewall lettering. Not sure on the price, might be less than the BFG's. I think Jack's Tyres in chaguanas has them.

Quickserve has a sale right now. Buy 3 and get the forth free.
I priced the Toyo's and they where about $1000 per tyre.
And I run Toyo on the Tiida and I love them so I will try the Toyo Open Country AT on the Frontier.

RT,

Here's what the IRonman Electra A/T's look like:

... compared with the BF Goodrich A/T's

Will have to call Jack's tyre to see if they have them.
Might be cheaper than the BFG's.

Did you ever consider the Kumho Roadventure A/T's?

I checked Laughlin & de Gannes, Milage Mack, Tyre Centre & Master Serve yesterday. Milage Mack (Toyo) and Tyre Centre (Hankook) have the tyre size on order. The others don't have. Quick Serve was not open yesterday. Nobody had Kumho.

lighthammer - Ironman Electra is no imitation to teh BFG

the Electra LT66 is a different thread pattern to the BFG (as seen in your pics above) - no comparison

i have seen some chinese tyres (by quick service) that more closely resembled the BFG's

$1550 on sale still kinda high

when Quick Service has them on sale, they are still cheaper than that

lowest I ever saw them were $1500 each

Newbie, the Toyos are nice, you won't be disappointed

point to note though, although they are speced at a threadwear of 520, they wear quickly

I have them a year now and they down to half life (SanDo to Pt. Lisas and back daily and recently Pt. Lisas - to Champs Fleurs - Sando three time a week)

I expect to get 1 more year out of them

so gauge that with your daily running and decide what kinda life u may get outta them

^ hmm ur right.

Should have said "similar" instead of "same".

D'oh!
Still a nice tyre though. Saw them on a couple frontiers and they looked the bee's knees.

www.4wdmonthly.com.au might have some answers.

Copy and paste this search parameter into google: Hilux tyre sizes site:http://www.4wdaction.com.au

Have fun browsing (i too tired right now to read through it, but I'll leave it to you to enlighten the masses :) ...)

short answer = 31/10.5x15"

That means your tyres would last about 30,000km. That is not that great. After doing so calculations that means those tyres would last me about 1 year. Maybe I should look at the tyres wagon put on what was that tread wear like 700+.

After doing some more checking I think I under estimated the life of venum's tires. I think they are more like 40,000km and seeing how he drives it could be because of that he is getting such low millage (Venum, YOU DRIVE HARD!).
I talked to another pickup owner and he said he would get about 50,000km from his michelin's that he had on and its threadwear was 420 and he drives more like me so I should get about 50 - 60 thousand on the Toyo's and I like Toyo any way.

I been checking though out the last two weeks at Milage Mack for the tires. Tires came in on Wednesday. Went today and all sold. What the hell. Milage Mack sell all there open country 265/70 15 tires in 2 days.

New shipment in 3 weeks. Damn!!

this Newbie Punk doing forensics on my driving style

I average 30,000km a year

have teh tyres 1 year and they on half life (compared them with one of the vans in work that recently got a new set)

so 2 years should give me 60,000km

this was my expectation when I bought them, based on a conversation that I had with TL in a garage lime, based on teh mileage he got outta his

so far they more or less correct and living up to expectation

and yes I drive hard

but it isn't my fault . . . it's Elle's fault . . . she turbo'ed

8-)

OK so this newbie was just trying to weigh his options.
If I get 60,000km out of the tires that would be fine, hope to get more though.

yes I have no turbo but I don't think I would go over 120km even if I had a turbo in the Frontier.
Frontiers are to bouncy.

if you want some serious MT tyres, go check Dean's Wheels in diego martin. I was there yesterday and saw that he had a whole bunch of Maxxis MT's. they were mounting some 305/70R17 maxxis tyres on a guy's Navara, and had done a 3-inch suspension lift on it just so the tyres would fit.

They do suspension lifts for most trucks (he's the guy who owns the red Ford F250 with the HUGE lift and monster truck tyres, seen on the recent Trailblazers King Of The Hill event), so he has good quality stuff (Calmini, American Racing, Konig, etc.)

633-RIMS.

He has good prices too.
Sorry that I didnt take pics.

^^ Does your father do any offroading at all or are you looking for road tires.
I always loved Toyo. They are available at Milage Mack at between $900 - $1200 depending on what you are looking for.

One of these days I going to have to pick up a set of 31x10.5x15 proper mud tyres but have no idea what available locally

In the meantime, I will run down my Firestone Firehawk ATX to the ground.... These still selling anywhere locally since Jr. Sammy give up the tyre business?
