Anyone ever experienced this 'axle wrap thump'? Doing some research on it and seeing a simple mod that is supposed to help with this. Just wanna know if anyone ever tried it? Did it work? Where did you get the axle helpers? How much was it? Check the link for clarification if needed

Hi all,

I'm very new to this forum and I own a 4-5 month old brand new Triton VGT 2014 model. I'm from Malaysia by the way. The reason I decided to start a new thread is because searching through forums and Google didn't seem of much help .

I hope the title is quite clear about the condition of my Triton. I'm new to pickups and therefore am wondering if it's just me being sensitive or the Triton is not supposed to have a whirring/Grinding/rattle/buzzing noise when I decelerate and quickly reaccelerate back. The noise happens just for a short while and even the SC couldn't determine what it was. They've ruled out that it's an scv issue. I do feel like fc has increased ever since i noticed this which is after the first service of 1000kms. However, the noise does not repeat consistently. Sometimes i can recreate the sound but sometimes it doesn't happen.

Is this normal? What should I look out for to tell the SC?

THANKS for all of your time and advice

EDIT:
I hope this video/audio showcases the sound... quite difficult to hear amidst the road noise because of the roads here... though bitumen but not smooth thus the road noise. I purposely recorded the meters as well to show you exactly when I decelerate and immediate acceleration would recreate the noise (00:09 seconds and 00:27 seconds are a little more prominent)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3cnKBDA ... e=youtu.be

This second video should be a little clearer at 00:04 - 00:06 seconds

Welcome Dark_Angel85. You've made a wise choice in choosing a Mitsu Triton. I can definitely hear some weird noises in those videos. I sounds like its underwater but I hear a grumble. That's a strange noise that I've never heard before. Check the air and fuel filters, all belts including the belts inside the engine cover, all mounts and exhaust for leaks. That's definitely a strange one.

Hi, the noise consistently occurs in the 2500RPM+- rev range. I would think that the SC would have checked all those things like air/fuel filters, belts and leaks when I sent it to them. I will be doing my 20k service soon with them and I'll specially mention these few things to them as well.

However, having very little to almost no mechanical knowledge, what should I do to check them by myself? where and how to look for those things mentioned? what should I be looking out for?

Thanks again for your time and advice.

Maybe you can point it out in the photo for a more visual aid for me? Thanks cause I'm not that good in all these things

Toyopet: Just opened the hood, tried to check as much as to my knowledge...

air filter - though a bit dusty, but shouldn't be too bad till the next service.

belts that can be seen: don't seem to show any visual signs of defects or things that might be of concern....

fuel filter - didn't dare to open cause there seems to be many things connected to it, so... better leave it until I know 100% how to deal with it

leakages: while the engine was still running, tried to shine around the engine pipes/tubes/ or anything that I can see that could show signs of leaking... nothing leaking.

some have advised to check the rear diff fluid levels. Do you think it affects? I couldn't pry open the bolt for the life of me, and will just tell the SC to check when I go for my next service.. should be within a month or 2

Yea that noise is definitely very audible. How long have been noticing that noise and do you think the situation has gotten any worse? I use to follow a Triton Forum very closely before I got my Sportero and I have been numerous negative posts about a SC Mitsu dealer which seem to offer very poor service when people take their Tritons with issues.

Other from that, have you ever had any other issues?

Nope. This is the only issue (actually more of a nuance cause besides the noise itself, I don't know how it affects the car). Was browsing online and found this similar issue in a Chevy forum

http://www.duramaxforum.com/forum/2011- ... ood-4.html

I wonder if we can check something like this also with the EGR hoses cause it does consistently occur at the 2500 RPM +-. Maybe one of the hoses... will try to look and see if I can see any lose hoses... though not sure where to start

Hi guys,

I posted another video which is hopefully clearer.... buzzing noise now is consistent at around 2500RPM, if I manage to keep at 4th gear and maintain the revs at that number, the buzz is continuous and no longer just short buzzes.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTYVBSY ... e=youtu.be

Cheers

I have the Roll-n-Lock on my curved tray Sportero (probably it is mine you saw) and it works fine. However, it is not waterproof, but pretty durable and I have abused it quite a lot.

The size of the intercooler inlet and outlet are smaller on the non turbo, also the number of valves differ.... I think the turbo has an extra valve.

High powered started at TCW onward in the automatics (tiptronic). Not sure of the manuals. listen for obvious turbo whistle. Whatsapp me at 349-4213 and I'll send pix of the engine/turbo

I hear in Jamaica we get the same spec as Trinidad, so in Ja the High powered versions come with the 6 spoke rims as shown in the pic. Plus they come with that type of side step, the powered back glass and where the bed meets the cab is body coloured (the regular ones have a black strip). Also when you ease off the gas you can hear the turbo spool down (almost sounds like a mini blow off valve).
