I had a bad experience with a Toyota filter that I bought locally from a reseller sometime ago. After servicing, oil started leaking from around the filter while driving. It could have cost me an engine.

Last week, the same thing happened with my father in law. He serviced at a popular garage (diagnostic services etc in Mc Bean opposite a savannah) and paid for a genuine filter. After he got home, he realized oil was leaking from around the filter.. (His vehicle wasn't a Toyota but another popular brand) .

When he took it back, the garage owner said, he's been having that problem a lot with oem brands.

i chose the one on the left because it said made in japan and had 'japanese' writing as opposed to the one that said made in thailand and it had french translation. i really don't know for sure.

very difficult to tell which one is fake, the major difference between the two is the size

googling toyota 90195-yzzd3 has lots of info though.

Went in TTTL Monday, in a glass show case they have the fake and real oil filters,the real is made in Japan and inside is made up of a spongy honey mustard color fabric layers and the fake is just a light yellow paper filter inside and is made in Thailand,so i'll chose the one on the left ,the price was $140 for the original.

Hey Guys please see attached Pic ,

This Is what I have been selling to multiple large customers (vehicle owners and dealers) over the last couple of months. As you can see it is made in Thailand and I can assure this was purchased from Toyota Thailand directly. There is no French writing on it and the box is totally different . I sell these for 55.00 and for my next shipment I will post my Delivery note from Toyota Thailand. $140.00 is way to expensive for this item as I can bring 90915-20003 for the same $55.00 from Japan. What I will do as I am currently out of stock I will bring in both part numbers(japan and thailand) for the same price and I will purchase a filter from Toyota just to prove how much we are robbed....lol

This is what I can't quite understand. The local Toyota dealership was taken over by the parent company of Toyota when Robert Amar was "distracted" with his other businesses. So it is not a local dealership "robbing" us, but the Toyota Corporation itself. Why would they not provide competitive pricing since they are in control?

Have no problem at all paying tht since i service every 10k which is twice a year, the cheapest i ever paid was $600 at TTTL, average service is $1200, while the average service we pay at ANSA is $1600.

my truck was bought from maska and all you pay for is parts (i.e oil, filters) my service is usually $900-$1100(if i change fuel filter)

The filter on the left turns out to be the fake.

Both part numbers are valid. It's very difficult to tell by just looking at it however the following can help:

- the original Toyota sticker (not found on all boxes but on the d4d oil filter boxes).
- the original filter has a plastic seal over the filter opening to prevent any dust particles from entering the filter.
- believe it or not TTTL uses the original filter for two oil changes (I've used them up to 16000km).
- know and trust your supplier bearing in mind that cheaper isn't always better. Most parts place will resale to make an extra dollar. It's your respondsibility to ensure that whatever you parts your vehicle uses will be safe and protect your investment in the long run.

So people buying all pickup trucks coming from Thailand and it's original but the spare parts are fake? interesting............

Apparently there are factories in the Asian countries that would run off a minimum of a 100 filters any brand. You describe what you want, tell them what brand you want and they can make it. Those fakes are so good that it's hard for an inexperience person to tell the difference. The difference is mostly in the quality and build of the product.

to put this to rest ,cut one oil filter in half ,let's see what's inside made up of cause TTTL ,has the fake and original in a case both are cut in half ,will take a pic,today.

Just to add to this discussion , Toyota is not the only brand with multiple filters for the same Van , See attached for the navara from nissan .

The grey filter is sold by nissan Thailand(used by import maska mrampersad etc) , the black is made by nissan Europe (used by neal and massy) both are inter -changeable and I have heard that the grey one is fake as well. The best defense is buy from trusted suppliers, in opening i faced issues of my parts being fake and customers skeptical , but any honest business can work through this as alot of tuners have used my parts and saved, and can easily recommend me .

Just be careful and examine your products properly before buying...

hey guys just posting an update to this thread noticed when i brought in the 90915-20003 two months ago it was made in japan . It seems toyota japan changed it to the same Denso part no as the 90915-yzdd2....as you can see in the first pic 90915-20003 is now made in thailand .

The difference you may as well about 35.00 dollars as 90915-yzdd2 cost about 45.00tt abd 90915-20003 cost about 80.00 for the exact same part made in the same country and at the same factory just different part numbers
