I went ahead and did the service myself last week, switched to Amsoil and got the filters (fuel & oil) from FilterProz on the forum. Total cost including the oil was just below $700. (bought 2 gallons of oil @ $250 each and I have approx 2 quarts left to use for the next oil change)

I noticed after the 2nd service at the stealership early last year, that there were some oil stains on the shield below the engine but never bothered much with it as the oil level never dropped.

When I got below the truck to the drain the oil (you have to remove one of the shields to get to the drain plug) I had to use and extension on my socket wrench to unscrew the plug. The drain plug was a little wet with oil, but not dripping. Only after removing the plug I noticed the the crush washer was never changed as it still had the black paint around the edges from when the oil pan was painted...it was the original crush washer. It was a simple $3 fix but it had me a little concerned on what else the stealership overlooked when I took my vehicle there to service.

On another note, this is what came out of my old fuel filter after removal. The black crud between the water and the diesel was floating everywhere... left it overnight to settle.

(P.S. - the rum bottle came from one of my lazy a$$ workers. I don't drink white oak anyway :-P)

Thanks for the advice everyone. Well i believe I could wait. however I saw they said the ford has breaking problems with d abs.......that really verified??????? That has me skeptical bout getting the current model. wanted to wait an see if its rectified in the new model. And I guess the only other factor would be the price of the new model.

marcuantearcop... the new model has 4 wheel disc brakes. So yes, you should get better hold than what you get now.

Ford Ranger 4x4 XLT WLT now doing 50k and all is well, no complain. Everyone tell's me I got the crappiest van ever, but so far its being handling the bad road to point, sitting nice on the highway and fuel economy is nearly as good as the frontier. Still miss my frontier, very strong van despite all the critics on it, just the crappy engine went on me at 120k. I get that's the price I paid for petting my van. Pirelli Scorpion 265/70R16 works well. Some forum says it touches but not in mines. If I have to recommend one 2 main improvements, it would be ride comfort and more room in back seat. Still its ride comfort is much better than the frontier. Somone told me to change my radiator from plastic to some kind of metal thing at 60k in the firm under warranty, this increases life of engine or head. but as long a`s it working good i aint touching any thing

The heads in the WLT are noted for cracking after a while.
Under warranty, if the firm is doing it, why not do it?
Even if nothing is wrong now, the bigger radiator would be a plus in keeping the van running cooler.

I never heard of the firm doing that though? That means they acknowledge the problem with the WLT vans?

FYI for everyone, the Ranger front diff cannot take too much jamming, i know of a few instances wherethe diffs were damaged/broken while offroading. So be aware of vehicle feedback while on the trails
