I have been putting this off for too long.Let me start this off with one of the first hiking trails I went on in the earlies.
This is Jabillo Chorro waterfall. The name means sand box tree. It is also known as Habio.
This waterfall can be accessed by two main trails in the Rincon valley of Maracas, and also by a trail descending from Caurita Mountain.
The 'easier' of the two routes is from Rincon. One can either pass across the river by Texas Village, or drive further up and access the trail from Blackpool . In either case, you pass the turnoff to Rincon Waterfall and proceed up the hill. These hills are steep and not recommended for people with lower levels of fitness of health issues. Total walk distance is roughly 4.5 km depending on where you pass. This trail is not a very busy trail,so expect wildlife like snakes and biting insects. The smaller waterfall is Blackpool, which gets it colour from tannins dissolved in the water.

Usual disclaimer applies.Don't go hiking by yourself if you lack experience. There are bonafide hiking groups that will accommodate you.

Did Paria Falls on Saturday. Start and finish from the spring bridge
Small group, slow pace
One kid panicked when he started getting cramps because he never really experienced pain
The one 'fitness / marathon dumbaas held the whole group back because saddis didn't walk with water nor food :|
Really great to revisit after so many years. Still my favourite place in T&T
Also a reminder I'm not as young as I once was. Regular Breezy Hill and mtb trail riding saved me from complete embarrassment
Trail in pretty good condition. Muddy patches here and there
As per any long hike, plenty water, good, snacks, salt prunes, good hiking shoes etc

Did maracas recently as part of a company team builder. Stunning waterfall. Plenty people almost couldn't make it. Shows how important fitness is.
Did 3 pools as well and almost drown lol

I commend you guys on getting that far. Hopefully it inspires similar events and activities.
If was top of Maracas Falls, you guys deserve a prize. That is one of the hardest trails I ever did

Heard Saut D'eau is probably the hardest locally. In terms of general hiking that not leading to anywhere in particular a few army guys told me they do one as part of initial training that starts in Paramin, over the hills and ends at caura, 24 hrs plus :|

Saut D'eau is difficult if you start late. The overhead sun is torture, but is on paved road mostly.

Believe me when I tell you that there are MUCH harder single trails out there .Hollis waterfall, El Tucuche summit, Monte Crusoe , Petit Riviere falls to name a few.
There are people that chain a few trails together and torture themselves in the process. Some friends of mine did Scotland Bay to Paria this year .It took them 3 days .
I have slowly become accustomed to this way of life and nothing my hiking friends do surprises me anymore.

Re: Matrix, there are a few hiking trails south side , as per my usual disclaimer, check out some events by the bonafide hiking groups if you are new to it.

I have hiked a few up north and central. South is the final frontier. Did el tucuche in 2016, the was pain coming down. But is the best view
