Shark attack on Turtle Beach Tobago

Turtle Beach/ Courland Bay is temporarily closed off to the public. No bathing or beach activities in the area is allowed at this time.

Unfortunately, a visitor to the island was attacked by a shark earlier this morning in the vicinity of the Starfish Hotel.
The Chief Secretary has spoken to the British High Commissioner.

Incident time 9.15am Friday 26th April 2024
Appeared to be Bull shark
Distance: 10 meters away from shore
Size of Shark: 8 to 10 ft in length, 2 ft in width

Nationality of visitor: British
Peter Smith 64 yrs
19A Berkhamsted England.

Injuries: left hand severed from elbow down
Left thigh severed.
Laceration to stomach

Mr. Smith is receiving critical care at the Scarborough General Hospital.
The TT Coast Guard has been notified and is monitoring the area.

1st time im hearing of a shark attack ... but 4 reals my memory gone bad too.

aslo white or black tip reef sharks are generally too small to cause that kinda damage.

Saw video with ah big hammer 13ft attacking (another shark/fish) near a shore idk if related

7 beaches closed now

The Chief Secretary has announced the closure of seven beaches in Tobago as a result of a shark attack this morning.

Here's a bigger one. Something ate a 9 foot great white and dove straight down with it. Deeper than killer whales go. The invested sensor had an increase in body temp showing it was in something and gps showed rapid descent beyond most predators we know dive to.
