in my mind, it's a toss up between Hard fete and Like Yourself. Machel chune have a lil more road-marchy vibe
But my chune for the year is Ola with Engine Room

Save for the chorus, one can't really sing along or vibes to either Hard Fete or Come Home, so I would be surprised if either wins.

Mental Day not bad, it's just not road march material, too slow and not enough jump up or wine vibes.

Nailah and Skinny have it in the bag, would honestly be shocked if that don't win.

Now get a chance to watch Machel's video with Destra for Shake the Place.
I see Rohan Sinanan's Defender made it into the vid.

Yes think so too, Nailah song peak too early, but I'm happy with both.

Oh guuud that song real hard.

But honestly. You can't say "all those songs are sheit". I sure if you list your top 10 songs it have ppl could say 9/10 of them are sheit.

Soca is such a untapped gold mine, very close to making it big internationally like Afro beats.

Always surprised me when I was in London in 2019 and on a regular club night they blasted quite a few soca tracks and the crowd (mostly white) knew them word for word and was definitely loving it.

Was a bit high, but I definitely remember some of them being Kevin Little Turn me on, a few Machel (forgot which), Kerwin Du Bois Too Real and Destra (Carnival).

All my friends there thought this was Jamaican music though....

But Soca is fairly popular in NY, Toronto and London if we're being honest, just hasn't made it mainstream. yet.

So far it look like Come Home being played the most at least as far as I heard when I watched a few bands crossing d stage. So that will likely take the title but Bunji Hard Fete close as well.

Lol, Soca had it’s shot and it’s been around a while now. The world knows or probably knows about Trinidad and it’s “greatest show on earth”…..if it was such a “gold mine” then successful artists as Niki Minaj would have made use of that opportunity. Even Machel with his greatness could not make it that big internationally. What is killing the music is the Trini culture, the lack of talent, consistency and the lyrics. My advice, keep the rhythm and beat, LOSE the wine, grind, jam and wave yuh hand…..the world just isn’t that into it. And when we want to promote Carnival and “show the world”, get rid of the chutney soca etc that brings the music down.

Follow the leaders of the music industry.
