The story on CNC3 last night suggested the party is fragmented and this move by Fuad and Ganga is nothing more than a last ditch effort to prevent their ousting by the new blood infiltrating the ranks.

Vasant Bharath for UNC but he is not "rootsy" enough... as in he's more "knife and fork" than "rum and roti".

Amery Browne for PNM but he's perceived as a "Manning supporter" and a threat to Growlers so he was shipped out together with Pennelope Beckles as T&T ambassadors.

Demographics!

The PNM has a massive (possibly over 90% African support base, 100% Syrian/Lebanese support base, 100% Chinese support base, a growing number of east Indian support (more than 10% for sure) and over 80% the support base of the Other category which includes mixes such as Dougla, French and Spanish Creole etc.

The UNC is predominantly supported by voters of east Indian origin like 90%. The 10% is the disgruntled remainders of the African and Other category who felt disinfranchised in the past. The problem is, that 90% east Indian support base are crabs in a tray of a moving pickup. They will scatter and divide and climb on each other whole day and whole night. Alternative parties will keep popping up and the PNM will get stronger. The brand of the PNM could be stink but it was never bad enough to breakup that party and reduce its chances of forming a govt. They may be divided on many topics but they are United at the polling stations. The core UNC grass roots crew too busy quarrelling on who shoulda get box drain contract so that Deo could have upgraded his b14 to a prado like raj and dem. So internal envy and bickering will continue to cement PNM's future.

Personally, I want UNC to win the next elections even though I know it is not possible based on the current crop of jokers they have as leaders and representatives. This time I want the country to see how inept a Kamla Persad-Bissessar run party will quickly sink this country into deep shithole status whilst those select few mega Indian contractors will become trillionnaires.

Besides, the PNM support will not give the UNC support an easy time. There will be protests and riots and possibly hate crimes against Indian people so to avoid all that mayhem, the PNM should continue to rule dictatorship style and tax their own into dirt poverty whilst the rest of the nation pack planes and head to Canada etc.

UNC must reinvent itself

THE EDITOR: As the sky is blue and the Pope is always a Roman Catholic, the only way for the UNC to comprehensively beat the PNM at the polls, is to be part of a coalition. What the UNC needs to take on board is that they have to totally reinvent themselves. They have to bite the bullet and swear/sign to equally share political power.

You cannot take coalition votes and then treat with their leaders like former girlfriends/boyfriends. A little gift here, a little gift there, call you every now and then, just to say you are still friends. If the UNC-led Opposition is not into power sharing, forget it. 2010 - 2015 cannot happen again. The electorate is not supposed to suffer more blatant hypocrisy.

Allegations of nepotism were rife. Preferential treatment was allegedly seen regarding goods, services and everything else. Forget about who told lies, please. We watched it happen.

It is alleged that in 2010, once you collected the money wrapped up in the UNC jersey and voted, that was it for the unsuspecting poor. Did the Movement for Social Justice (MSJ) pull out early because of blatant disrespect regarding power sharing? The COP and NJAC politically withered away slowly on the political vine, their supporters soured and bitter.

Before taking another walk down memory lane, coalition aspirants should insist on an MOU regarding treatment and power sharing. But this is TT politics, which is supposed to have a morality of its own. So it is advisable to not hold your breath. The UNC cannot be compared to Sandals. It is is not reputed to be a holiday in paradise. The only similarity to Sandals is that decision making rests entirely with the owners and founders of that entity.

We know who owns the UNC and it is often rumoured that the UNC is controlled by a cabal. In local parlance, I say to those who wish to form a fresh coalition with the UNC, "allyuh go nah!"

Looks like they're not interested in winning. The economy being what it is and projected to get worse during the next term, being/staying in opposition is a nice, safe job. They'll be able to criticize the Government without actually being responsible for improving the situation and of course will continue to collect their salaries at the end of the month...

There is no viable third party hence no point of a coalition. UNC winning this easy now.

Trinidad have to be one of the few countries that operate under the Westminster system where a political leader led a party to something like 6 consecutive electoral defeats and still be there as leader.

THA 2013 elections; Chaguanas West Bye Election, St Joseph Bye election; 2013 Local, 2015 GE, 2016 Local

Basically the only election KPB won was the internal UNC one.
