With a non cellular Apple Watch you can make and receive calls on your watch if your phone is nearby.
With a cellular Apple Watch you can make and receive calls on your watch EVEN if your phone NOT is nearby.

The cellular apple watch has it's own eSIM which takes the carrier settings from the eSIM on your iPhone

Within blue tooth distance it’s always been like that but we will have to see if you can leave your phone home and go out just with your watch alone to receive calls

On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app.
Tap the My Watch tab, then tap Cellular.
Tap Set Up Cellular.
Follow the instructions for your carrier. (That's if Digicel allows this yet)

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207578

But once Digicel does then whatever eSIM you have on your iPhone can be copied to your other cellular-capable Apple devices like your cellular apple watch and cellular iPad etc - that's how it works with the US carriers like AT&T, Verizon etc

I guess someone with a digicel eSIM on their iPhone and a apple watch GPS+Cellular can test it using the instructions above and see if it works

My carrier has esim support but will not provision my watch. So I recommend you don’t hold your breath till Digicel provides this service.

Hey which carrier is that?

Just found out that currently Digicel can't provision eSIM on wearables (so no Apple Watch) as yet but they are working on it for early 2023

Yea, bmobile physical, and digicel esim. The only problem I encounter is if I'm active on a call on my digi line, no calls to the bmobile will come in, and vice versa.

So no call waiting across numbers.
Small inconvenience for dual SIM capability

I believe that is normal behavior for dual sim

My cheap Chinese phone (Xiaomi) starting to lag now that it has reached the 3 year mark. Seeing a reasonably price Motorola with esim and physical SIM capability on Amazon. Feel I could be in that.

Would make buying a foreign SIM and packages really easy when traveling.

Yep, if it’s important they can call back.

Xiaomi 13 pro juat launched today

Can check specs on gsmarea as well

Getting one as its available as in the market for a new phone after 6 years

I just usually buy a flagship beast that ticks all the boxes for me and rally it out instead of buying the latest phones every year as most peeps

My current phone is the mate 20x will be hard to downgraded screen size tho my only gripe

I think he's asking if Whatsapp on your regular number will continue to work when you switch to the foreign eSIM

I hardly use WhatsApp. Only for group chats and work which I would tend to ignore anyway if abroad. But it works. In WhatsApp there is a change number feature so just do that and all your WhatsApp functionality will continue.

It will once you don’t reset WhatsApp. Alternatively you can use both WhatsApp business and regular WhatsApp together with two separate numbers at the same time on the same iPhone like I do.

Phones with dual active SIM will allow simutaneous use of both phone numbers because those phones have two radios. Dual standby phones have a single radio and can only use one SIM at a time.

Ok so basically when you leave T&T, your local mobile data will be on and your foreign e-sim data off.

When you arrive, your local data should be off and you foreign e-sim data on.

Your whatsapp will work normally because your phone is receiving mobile data. Think of it as if you took off your mobile data entirely and connected to a wifi…you still get whatsapp on your regular number.

Said as simply as i can.

^ in my experience when you change the SIM, WhatsApp tries to change to that number. That’s why when ppl are traveling or otherwise you see “xyz changed their number” in WhatsApp.

I use WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business to get two WhatsApp accounts on one phone

Yea. This is what i do I change the number in WhatsApp. Maybe this other way is for a data only sim ? That’s possible right? But my e-sim gives me a foreign number that i temporarily assign to WhatsApp

The message comes up but you can dismiss it, and tell Whatsapp to keep using the previous number. It happened recently.

The lack of call waiting between SIM's has frustrated my wife to the point I'm back to two phones

^ Yes when you install an eSIM you can assign which number to use for WhatsApp and which number to use for data etc.

Has anyone had to transfer their eSIM to all other cellphone with the QR code?
Digicel west mall is saying that the QR code is only good for 24hours and that if I need to transfer the number after that I will need to come in and pay another 50$ for a sim replacement.

Had anyone encountered this ? Because honestly it makes no sense.

That's BS.

Just delete the eSIM from the old phone first and then scan the QR code or enter the code manually on the new phone.

The QR code says its invalid. Keep in mind they didn’t even want to email me it. If anyone has gotten a eSIM that they can reuse/swap without going into Digicel please let me know which branch so I can go there. Because 50$ to switch my sim everything is absolutely rubbish
