MEDIA RELEASE

1 Suspect Held and Seven Stolen Vehicles Recovered

Diligent work by officers has led to the recovery of seven motor vehicles which were reported stolen across several Divisions and the arrest of one suspect, in ongoing anti-crime exercises.

Between the period December 29th, 2022 and Tuesday 10th, 2023, officers made the following successful recoveries:

1. A white Kia Rio which was reported stolen in the Marabella district in March 2020, was recovered in the Sea Lots area, by officers of the Port of Spain Division Task Force, on Tuesday 10th, 2023. A 36-year-old fisherman was arrested in connection with the incident.
2. A white Toyota Aqua which was taken away at gunpoint at One Woodbrook Place, around 10:25pm, on Tuesday 10th January, 2023, was recovered less than an hour later in the San Juan district by officers of the San Juan Crime Patrol Unit.
3. A silver Toyota Aqua, which was reported stolen from the Chaguanas district sometime between January 5th, 2023 and January, 6th, 2023, was recovered abandoned in the Morvant district, on January 9th, 2023.
4. A white Nissan AD Wagon, which was stolen sometime between January 9th, 2023 and January 10th, 2023, in the Guayamare district, was recovered abandoned by officers of the Central Division Task Force (CDTF), Area South, in the Couva district a short time later.
5. A white Nissan AD Wagon, which was reported stolen from the Barataria district in October 2022, was recovered abandoned on the shoulder of the southbound lane of the Uriah Butler Highway bearing false registration plates, on January 10th, 2023, by officers of the CDTF-Area North.
6. A white Kia-2700 Pickup motor vehicle which was reportedly stolen at gunpoint from a victim in the Port of Spain District, on Tuesday 10th January, 2023 was recovered in the Sea Lots area around 12:15 am, on Wednesday 11th January, 2023.
7. A white Toyota Aqua, which was reported stolen in the San Fernando district on December 23rd, 2022, was recovered by officers of the Stolen Vehicles Squad, in the Beetham Gardens district, on December 29th, 2022.

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service urges vehicle owners to take all necessary precautions to make their vehicles hard targets for criminals.

Such precautions include investing in anti-theft devices for vehicles such as GPS systems, alarms and kill switches.

Traumatizing. She lucky it wasn't worse.
Damn boy. Can't go up the Mount again now nah. Used to rel like dat place. They must be track she all the way from Scotiabank at St. John's road and see that she was alone.

Church doh mean nothing to most criminals now. Holy Ground doesn't exist in these criminal elements of society. Only the gun has power. Remember how they thief out a bell at some church for scrap iron and how a few temples were vandalized and desecrated?

That is them scrap iron men chosen workhorse and we all know the kind of upstanding members of society they are.

Especially no foreign used parts and them men have to face firm prices, so expect thefts to continue

most popular pickup and parts prob still not cheap and widely avail like older pickups
vehicles are stolen for a few reasons:

1 - To be used as disposable getaway cars for serious crimes, home invasions, midrange modern looking cars, city, civic, corolla
2 - Workhorse hustle, kia 2700, h100
3 - Hybrid parts and battery, aqua
4 - Parts, popular suvs, newer pickups, beater cars like tiida

Ok, where you got those stats? You said it's a fact in caps, so I suppose you have a valid data source.

I see many gps alarm companies advertising "geofence" feature
Anybody know the details of this ?
Does it shutdown the car once it enters a programmed area, eg morvant ?

Geofence is a safe area setup by the owner where it is deemed safe. When the perimeter is broken alerts would be sent to notify that the safe area was breached.
