No need for bets. They already said they cap the subsidy at 1b. So expect price to increase.

Govt needs to let real pain be inflicted on the population. The buttressing via all the various subsidies have the entitled public sector still expecting big increases and backpay.

I see the most hard working public servants striking again on Monday after having done so yesterday.

Dizz,

There is a problem with that, wasa and t&tec are heavily subsidized if you remove the subsidies as mentioned then the population will feel the real pain as well. Is either you let the government pay for the cheap water and lights or the citizens pay the real cost associated with each utility

We at the point where it doesn't matter. Some ppl want more pay when the income of the country cannot support it. Expense have to start cutting from elsewhere and subsidies is the most obvious choice.

For the young ones here they may not know but the tax allowance was only 25k a year when I started working. Now its 84k. Things like these are at risk if some segments of the working population do not understand how basic budgeting works.

He does nothing for the man on the ground and every moment he gets he lowers the standard of living in this country. He speaks from his moka heights perspective while the peasants on the ground do the actually work.

So why does everyone seem to like him so much? He always gets voted back and gets good portfolios.

No MoF will be 'liked', because they will always have to make difficult decisions and can't please everyone. Kinda goes with the territory of being a c-level finance person too in the private sector. Resources are finite, demands are the opposite. It's a juggling act.

They don't need to be popular, just need to do their job properly. And "properly" is usually not what John public thinks it is.

Colm is an intelligent fella and actually one of the better politicians in the PNM lineup. I personally don't like some of their decisions, but you must consider that it's not his decision alone to make.
