The Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) has confirmed a country-wide power dip shortly after 6:39 PM Thursday.

Power dips were reported across many areas in Trinidad's southern, central, and northern areas. Unlike the previous island-wide outages and dips, T&TEC customers in Tobago also reported a drop in electricity and an outage in Crown Point.

According to T&TEC's Corporate Communications Manager Annabelle Brasnell, "At 6:45 PM, we experienced a disturbance at our 66-kilovolt substation at Bamboo. This is a transmission substation and, therefore, had a knock-on effect at our distribution substations which distribute electricity at 12 kilovolts."

According to T&TEC, Tobago's electricity supply used to run, with the line still connected, from the Bamboo substation through a 132-kilovolt line from Powergen to Bamboo through to Toco and then through to Tobago. This connection led to power dips reported across parts of Crown Point and other areas of Tobago.

She added that substations in Endeavour, Charlieville, and Trincity had been taken offline, causing power outages in Charlieville, Endeavour, Macoya to Piarco, and Las Lomas to Caroni. Outages were also reported across parts of southern and central Trinidad.

Brasnell says as of 7:32 PM, all customers have had their electricity supply returned.

Unfortunately we experienced some problems with the restoration in the Chaguanas area and those customers lost supply again. Efforts are in progress to resolve that issue.

TTEC: Restoration after early morning electricity shortage

A temporary electricity outage took place earlier today, causing almost 20% of T&TEC customers to experience disruptions across the country. The interruption lasted from 3 minutes to 1 hour long for customers. Details follow in this press release...

Approximately 20% of T&TEC's customers in Trinidad experienced an interruption in their electricity supply lasting between 3 minutes to 1 hour today, October 24th. The electricity grid has remained stable since that time and customers have experienced no additional problems.

At approximately 7:40 a.m. a problem with machines at one of the Commission's Independent Power Producers (IPP) caused the system to automatically shed customers at different locations across the island, including Trincity, Siparia, Preysal, Morne Coco Rd, Rousillac, Curepe, Manzanilla, Biche, Aranguez, Enterprise, Palmiste, Las Lomas, Debe, Diego Martin, Valsayn, Arouca, Bon Air, Arima, Maraval, Sea Lots, Cunapo and Guaico.

T&TEC then instructed the other IPPs to immediately increase output to their full available capacity and to make standby generation available.

Restoration to customers commenced at 7:43 a.m. At 8:11 a.m., supply had been restored to more than half of all affected customers and at 8:37 a.m. the electricity supply to all affected customers was normalised.

This incident was unforeseen and the Commission and its IPPs responded immediately to ensure minimal disruption to customers.

I wonder if the TTEC people are doing any statistical analysis on the power outages this year to discover if this is normal or more than normal outages. If it's the latter then Trinidad has a problem with its power supply and the grid that needs to be addressed. Up to now none of the public can read that taxpayer funded Committee-Inquiry report from February, it still up Rowley eyes-only ass, that can't concern the citizens.

It feels like it's more than normal level of outages to me. But that's just a feeling.

Very hot day today, and night. So big load drawn from aircon could be excess strain that forced load shedding.
