In most cases, licenses are permanent while permits are temporary. For instance, in driving, a permit is valid for up to two years in most places while licenses are permanent, although they can also be annulled in case of misuse etc.

http://www.differencebetween.net/busine ... -licenses/

Does this mean these won’t have to be renewed?

Given that they offer 10 year licenses they gonna have both permit and licenses being valid till 2032?

Was this a priority at this time? Wonder who got this contract?

How many times the license will change, same corruption happening to obtain it

No way.

DP renewal is a cash cow for the government.

who knows. they may get fed up of managing 2 systems and may change their mind in 1 or 2 years and give ppl a grace period to come in and change their old permit for the new 'license'.

I'm sure they will keep the both current for a while similar to how ppl have the blue computerized birth certificate and the polymer. Both are valid.

T&T wants all these first world systems but does not have a competent and capable local work force. They cannot even print the current DP correctly.

We need foreign assistance.

another useless waste of money

fake plates is a bigger problem than fake dp

every single serious crime is committed with a stolen car using fake plates

what about the venes who keep reprinting fake international drivers permits ?

I have seen a car with condensed text on plates. Isn't that illegal?

"Phased", meaning in batches. While the majority of the population will not have the new card, they can not nullify the old cards. But as more people get the new ones, they will put an end date to the two card system.

Is just which date they would chose to stop the old cards

Hopefully in years.

But imagine, getting a new card this year, then getting the notice that ur phase to upgrade is next year,
Time and money wasted and hassle.

All cards have expiration dates, so why not just re issue new ones upon renewal?

Hadda make a bachannal scene with every ting.

Jess, like the 100 dollar note.

My expire date is 2027.. Hopefully my phase is 2028,,, so I will hadda renew any ways.

If is before, I hope they don't change me no extra money.

Can someone tell me what are the changes and improvements that are to come from this transition from "permit" to "license"

Still hadda renew every 5 or 10 years
Still considered as a form of picture ID
Still shows the holders same information
Still have to physically go licensing office to get or renew it.

So other than some clown getting a few million to supply a couple thousand in new antiquated equipment, exactly what the hell is the purpose of this nonsense?

nah, the existing machines just need to be programmed with whatever new template they want. They're already capable of this.

The government would need to buy the blank pvc or polycarb cards from a security company like HID Global, etc. The blank cards will have whatever hologram features required, and there is a fixed place with 3 layers of ink embedded in the card that the existing laser cutting printer will ablate through software to form a color image of the face. The laser would then just write out whatever else. That's why the card is so hot when you receive it from the machine.

The money should be spent on upgrading the database, counterfeit detection software and connected readers, etc.
For him to say that the cards can't be counterfeit is bs. A con-artist can pose as the owner of any company that requires employees to have id cards, buy a laser id card printer from AliExpress, and can order blank security cards with holograms closely matching the real ones so only a real scan with a machine to the database can tell if it's fake. This will change nothing within a few months.

Agreed and they better hurry up because we on the heels of PED and another few months later, we would get PEE. No one will want such a plate now unless they have a sick fetish or maybe they will skip to PEF? This latest series culture must end sooner rather than later.
