Power brakes problem

Postby redmanjp » June 27th, 2022, 8:43 am

Seem to have lost power brakes this morning. If the brake fluid level is halfway between MAX and MIN could that cause it?

If I assume you mean power assist yet you still have brakes that you need to stand on, then brake booster, booster vacuum line or faulty vacuum check valve. Your fluid level is adequate.

Well the brakes feel like how it does when the engine not running- almost complete lost of stopping power and the things is I was going down a slight hill at the time. Had to mash down hard to slow the car. Not taking chances driving it till the mechanic reach. Hearing a 'shhhh' noise when I press it.

Brake booster seems to be the problem

The brakes vacuum servo. The most likely point of failure in it is the rubber seal. I think they replace the entire unit rather than repair it.

Yeah that's what the mechanic says.

I called Bick's Auto but they wanted to know whether it's single or double diaphragm. I'm not sure, but it's a Y10 Nissan AD Wagon.

Power brakes problem

2 line or 4 line? Anything b14 should work matter of fact almost anything Nissan should work. I’ve taken 4 line master cylinders and blocked off 2 lines and it work normal. Double diaphragm is more expensive than single. The Y10 come like a b14 station wagon cuz all I’ve seen share the same parts

Had to change that out a few months ago as well. Was hearing a hissing sound under the hood when I turned off the car, it seemed the airflow line going to the brakes booster had a cut in it and also needed replacing.

I was hearing a hissing sound too but only when I mashed the brakes. Not when the engine was off. I wonder if it's the same thing? So that was a separate thing from the booster u had to replace?

Yes it was one of the hoses that goes into the booster that had a tear in it that had to be replaced.

Took some more pics. I'm seeing 3 lines. So not sure whether it's 2 or 4.

Yea 2 supposed to be for the front calipers and the rear drums share one line. If you look closely you’ll see 2 of the lines closest to where the cylinder bolts to the vacuum booster are kinda together, those are the front brakes the one to the top should be the rear

Got the booster and cylinder replaced today and the brakes are working well. It's actually going down further than with the original one.

Now I have some old brake fluid in a container from the old cylinder. Do gas stations accept it?

Carry it in the Gas Station and throw it away in their black bins they have next time you go to full gas.
