Both Unemployment Relief Programme (URP) and Community-Based Environmental Protection and Enhancement Programme (CEPEP) daily rated workers in Tobago will benefit from increased wages with effect from July 2022.

Confirmation came from Assistant Secretary, Division of Infrastructure, Quarries and Urban Development, Joel Sampson during Wednesday’s Post Executive Council meeting. Sampson noted that there will also be changes to job titles, which will take effect on July 14, the same date as the wage increases.

The changes, as announced by Assistant Secretary Sampson, are as follows:

Male, Female and Unskilled labourers will all fall under the category of Unskilled Labourers, with a wage increase from $79 per day to $149 per day.

Trade Assistant II will now be Trade Assistant II, Time Keeper, Environment and Women’s Programme, with a wage increase from $85 per day to $160 per day.

Trade Assistant III will now be Trade Assistant III - Construction Workers. The proposed wage change is from $93 to $156 per day.

Another group referred to as Trade Assistant III will be changed to Trade Assistant III - Time Keeper, with a wage change from $93 to $160 per day.

The new title for Foreman will be Light Equipment Operator, with a wage change from $106 to $156 per day.

Site Foreman to be changed to Site Foreman- Construction Projects. The proposed wage change is from $99 per day to $165 per day.

Sampson said that there are two categories of Charge Hands and one of those areas will be changed to Charge Hand Construction, with a proposed wage change from $181 to $231 per day.

The other category of Charge Hand will change to Circulatory Charge Hand, accompanied by a wage change from $181 per day to $241 per day.

He said drivers will maintain their title but will receive a wage increase from $170 per day to $220 per day. Tradesmen (including carpenters and masons) too will maintain their title and receive a wage increase from $166 to $216 per day.

He said approval has also been granted for URP workers to be eligible for the following:

2 weeks’ vacation leave, with pay, annually.

14 days’ sick leave annually.

4 days’ paternity leave at or about the time of delivery each time a spouse gives birth.

3 days’ bereavement leave upon the death of an immediate family member.

14 weeks’ maternity leave, as outlined in the Maternity Protection Act.

Assistant Secretary Sampson stated that the policy guidelines with respect to the changes in benefits will be properly disseminated to all workers.

Secretary, Division of Community Development, Youth Development and Sport, Terance Baynes, revealed that the restructuring of the CEPEP programme remains ongoing. He said a draft document is to be formulated by the Programme Coordinator and her team to treat with benefits to the CEPEP workers on the lower level of the organisational structure.

Baynes said as a result, with effect from July 4th, 2022, the wages of the following CEPEP workers will increase:

Unskilled CEPEP workers will benefit from $99.19 per day to $149.19 per day.

Semi-skilled workers will benefit from $145.48 per day to $195.48 per day.

Checkers’ will benefit from $155.39 per day to $205.39 per day.

And Foremen will benefit from $165.31 per day to $215.31 per day.

Baynes noted that the CEPEP wage bill is $765,449.70. With the proposed increase in wages, that bill is expected to increase to $1.6 million.

PDP strategy is to take more tax dollars paid by hard working people in Trinidad to double the salary of people in Tobago who " work" for 2 hours a day.

When your focus is the removal of the PNM but no plans for actual governance and no real party structure, seen it before and seeing it in some of the contenders for 2025 already. Cults of personality whose only real attraction is being anti/not PNM

Thats what happens when you put faith in politicians. Duke has a lot of baggage, but he has charisma which would appeal to the feeble minded. Same goes for the perennial opposition leader. Same goes for the prime minister. Farley seems to be trying his best, but once duke and his toxicity around, it's probably futile.

Which ppl? Because in a free and fair democracy, the PNM has won almost every election, and the other times, they have been out for just one term. What do you attribute to that? Racial voting? Election fraud? Voter intimidation? Superior politicians? Or maybe the majority of voters think they are doing a good enough job? Or the majority of voters rather vote for the lesser of the evils?

Agreed, you can also see it on tuner. Imagine if this happen with the PNM, this thread would have exploded with posts. At least hover posted the press release. What are the implications for Tobago? How does Farley operate as the chief secretary while being undermined in his own party? But Rowley getting horn is acceptable for most tuners here to pay attention to.

While i'm happy the PDP cut pnm ass in Tobago, the wild card was always Duke. He behave himself until now.

When Duke acted up on FB, Farley took the bait by publicly threatening to remove Duke from the role of Deputy Chief Secretary. Duke on the other hand shot himself in the foot by hastily removing the PDP deputy political leaders.

If this continues, the two tobago seats back in play for the pnm in 2025.

Don’t be surprised if Farley out as Chief Sec next week, remember just like a PM and Opposition Leader it’s the collective agreement of your peers in the house. Duke only needs 6 assemblymen to sign his doc saying they don’t support the current Chief Sec and Farley throat buss and he on the outside

Nah... that's not how a normal party operates. If there are disagreements in the party, you handle it internally. Duke should not have put Farley and his THA team on blast like that publicly.

Once again embarrassment for the nation. A folk troupe went to NY not knowing their accommodations or meal plans?
Also why would Farley say that the agreement was for transport only, while Duke hints of lies? Is Farley to be held responsible for poor planning by the troupe? Duke seems upset that the performers from his area were left high and dry, but HE has to tell us how they were allowed to leave without funds.
I going Dubai next week with ah $2 in meh pocket and call on the THA to bail me out

I think it's clear that PDP is not the answer to T&T having a 3rd political party to challenge the big 2.
